Literally, it means "we see". Nous voyons la scene (we see the scene).

But, it is also used figuratively to mean a couple of different things as well. Here is the word in different contexts; you'll notice it is used to accent or insist to the person you are talking to:

Voyons, soit sage! (Come on, behave yourself!)
Dites-voyons ( Tell me!)
Montrez voyons! (Show me!)
Regardez voyons (Look here.)

allons-y would means "let's go". and voyons would mean "come on (now)" or worse "oh really". I think litterally it would mean "we see(know)".
