Fiction! Not all puppies are born with worms. Puppies get worms from their mother. It is good to have any new puppy checked for worms as they are easily treated but can be deadly if left untreated.

It is incredibly common for puppies to either be born with worms, or be infected via the mother's milk soon after birth.

The larvae of the main roundworm that infect dogs (Toxocara canis) go through what is called hepatopulmonary migration- basically, they travel through the intestinal wall, liver and lungs and then are swallowed again, after which they mature in the gut. Some of the larvae go a bit off course, and can end up in lots of other tissues. This is generally of very little importance except in females that become pregnant. With pregnancy, the larvae 'reactivate' and can cross the placenta to the unborn puppies, and the mammary gland so that they pass to the puppies in milk once they are suckling.

This is why vets recommend worming females before and after whelping, and frequent worming of young puppies- infection is so common that it's best to assume that all are infected, especially as heavy worm burdens can potentially cause serious illness in young pups.

I'm sure it's possible to be born without worms, but puppies are commonly born infected with toxocara canis.

Yes, it is a fact!!!
They get them from the mother during the pregnancy, and after they're born, that's why, both mama and pups need to be dewormed starting at two weeks of age, and once a week after that, until they're about 8 weeks old, and they can be started on heartworm prevention, which will keep them also free of intestinal parasites.

only tapeworms are caused by eating flea eggs and most puppies are born with roundworms that is why puppies are wormed as part of routine puppy visits.

My pit bull was not born with worms. I got him at two weeks old, the mom stopped feeding the litter. I took him right to the vet. He was thoroughly checked out. He is 6 now and in perfect health. I think it depends on the litter.

No, this is not a fact. If the mother does not have worms or fleas the puppies will not be born with worms. Worms are caused by eating flea eggs.
