You are absolutely the kind of person who would do well as a medical speech pathologist, and probably would thrive in a teaching-hospital environment. This is a job which is never boring, as every day is different and brings its own challenges.
I was never without work for more than a week at a time. Job opportunities continue to grow with the graying of the boomer generation and the brain-injured vets returning from Iraq.
In order to qualify, you need a master's degree, plus a 9-month, full time fellowship to earn your "C's" (Certificate of Clinical Competence), which is the national certification awarded by ASHA--- the American Speech Language Hearing Association. Most states require licensure, too.
I worked in teaching hospitals for most of my 20-year career, and always looked forward to going to work. Not only did it pay well, but it was fascinating, too.

For most healthcare careers you need only a two year degree. We make the same money as a four year person and have saved a ton of money in the process. As for which one is best for you? Only you can decide that. It depends on whether or not you wish to work in diagnostic imaging, wiping butts or working in the lab.
One of the cool things about healthcare is that you can take your career with you anywhere in the country and make money.

do not rule out the tech direction. There are some somewhat good paying technician jobs that are very delicate. Surgical and Radiology Tech can extra specialize and do somewhat plenty with an pals point training. some tech jobs might additionally lead into gross sales Rep positions.
