What's next; will people start saying it's rude to breathe?

(I'm not talking about when it's done INTENTIONALLY; I'm talking about when a burp or a fart slips out unintentionally and people make it out to be a big deal as though it was intentional.)

It's improper and could kill ones appetite. So try to be more subtle when it's gotta go (say "excuse me") or do it somewhere where no one will hear the sound.

LOL! Breathing will never be a rude thing to do. :-)

It's natural for humans to be repelled or dislike things that hurt their senses. I think most people are offended or think these habits are rude because it hurts their sense of smell. Particularly with farting, which most of the time doesn't smell pleasant. The same reason may also apply for burping, sometimes the stench of bile and your last meal isn't pleasant. I do believe some people find talking with bad breathe to be rude and thus the resulting "breath mint" market, which is almost borderline rude breathing (through the mouth). If one were to pay attention to all the things that are considered rude, it has to do with 'unpleasantries' of the senses however natural they may be. You may also apply the same reasoning with such things as table manners, loud music, and inappropriate touching. It's a matter of interpretation. Some people find farting rude while other don't. In the extreme case, you can imagine that someone who enjoy the smell of farts or bile may find farting or burping something to look forward to.

I personally don't think that farting or burping is rude, but I do find any subsequent odors resulting from those actions as unpleasant and something I can do without. If someone wants to fart or burp in front of me, it's fine, but if I smell something... do excuse my reaction, that is... to leave the room until the smell is gone. If you wish to exhibit yourself in public unabashedly then I will exhibit my response in public unabashedly. It's only fair.

Concerning unintentional burping or farting, most people don't know whether it's unintentional unless (at least for me) you say "excuse me". In which case I will absolutely excuse you for something you had not intended. Though I think most people assume that they have control over that to some extent, enough to go fart in the bathroom or discreetly burp into their napkins facing away from the table. Personally I have no problem with the occasional slip up, we are human after all.

I suppose most of the time we can control our bodily functions like burping or farting, although some people just let it all out without care. That's when it starts getting a little rude.

"Rude" originally meant "raw" or "unformed". In other words, "natural". Polite means "polished"---that is, not the way we naturally are.

And unlike breathing, burping and farting are not *necessary* bodily functions. Polite people choose the *best* time to burp or fart: when they're alone.

Our ability to control our behavior and have empathy for others, seperates us from the animals. B.O., vomiting, and snot are also natural bodily functions, but we should try to have manners and selfrespect. We all know the many things our bodies can do. But nobody likes to be grossed out. I don't want your bodily functions causing a reaction from my bodily functions, ok? Anyone can have an unintentional accident, just say "excuse me" and move on. However, for you people that are obnoxious because you don't have the disipline for manners and respect, KNOCK IT OFF. I don't want to be a captive audience for your bodily functions.

((((((burp!)))))))

I agree. What's up with that? I really like to let lose a big smelly fart in a crowded restaurant after I finished eating. I mean, I need to make room for dessert and beer.

And while we are at it, why do people get annoyed at me scratching myself in public, and then sticking my hand in the mint bowl? I itch, you know.

I take great pride in my ability to burp loud enough to be arrested (long story with a very expensive ending) and having such smelly farts it actually made someone puke (yes, another story).

Because it's freaking nasty!

You want to smell the sausage dog with onions I had for lunch after I burp? Or the wicked gas I might get after consuming beans?

How about you sit down to dinner and I will walk past you, lift my leg and let one rip....sound yummy?

That smell will go nicely with your chicken and rice bake.

Just the thought of a lady farting is repulsive!! Didn't your mother teach you that Lady's don't do those things?? A good piece of advise is to NOT let that happen , especially around a prospective suitor.
