We are trying to work with the school, but they won't talk to the stepmom even if I am trying to do whats best for the child. Is there anyway in the courts or system for me to be able to talk to the school legally?

As a stepmother myself there really isnt much you can do enless you get the dad to go with you to the school. and that depends on what rights he has. Try not to take it out on the workers at school theyre only doing their jobs....

In most cases the custodial parent must give the school a written verification that it is okay to speak with the step mother/father. They usually have papers for them to fill out for such things. I had to do that for my child's school, and the person I filled it out for isn't married to me, they are more or less just a friend. I would say the best thing to do is see if you can look up your state/local laws on this and go from there. You could possibly even call and get a consultation from a lawyer on the matter, to see if there is anything more you could do.

I'm a firm believer that every problem has a solution!
Keep on knocking! and get to the bottom of it...
The sooner the better as some problems are just too insane for words!
Communication is often the key! and remember to never take a "no"
from anyone who can't give you a "yes" in the first place
and that any "no" you get is only a step away from the "yes" you are seeking.

It's called a Special Power of Attorney.

I had one when I was a stepmom.

My husband spelled out what I had authorization to do, including speak with school officials on his behalf.

You don't need a lawyer, just a notary.

You can get some sort of written documentation from the birth dad and/or mom to confirm that it is OK to speak to your step child's school. You may have to go to court for this.

The only way that can happen is if you adopted them. It's hard, but even as a foster parent, being the children where taken away from the parents, they still have more rights!Good luck

Talk to the school, have their father talk to the school as well, I have never heard of a school not talking to the step parent when there is consent. Good luck

You are married to the father of these children. Assuming that his parental rights have not been terminated, he can give the school permission to talk to you about his children. Then they have no reason to refuse to talk to you.

No, the PARENTS are the only people the school has to discuss the children with...you're NOT the children's parent...you are a step parent. Back off.

i think you have to apply for a step parent adoption to give you rights to the child
