Chances are that your friend's dog peed in the exact same place, which has left the scent in it. While YOU can't smell it, Lucy can and it tells her that it's OK to pee there. You need to get an enzyme cleaner to remove the odors so she can't smell it anymore.

I read the booby trap idea just that far, so if I repeat, sorry, I didn't even want to finish THAT answer. OK, go to your vet, or pet store, buy a very effective odor eliminator, use it on the spot she wet heavily, and on the rest of the couch regularly, to eliminate remaining traces of the dog's odors. Then, keep an eye on Lucy as best can be done whenever she is near the sofa, if necessary you may need to restrict her from unsupervised time in the couch's vicinity. Should she still not get it, you may need to get rid of the couch. Punishment doesn't really work on cats as a general rule, in my experience. But she's reacting to the smell of the dog as being ONE too many animals to challenge her position as Queen of the house.

Booby-trap the sofa, such as mousetraps under newspaper (makes noise but won't hurt the cat) or aluminum foil pie pans that fall off and make noise. Use baking soda on the urine spots. Make sure the litter box is scrupulously clean. Pay some extra positive attention to her. Also (and I know this sounds silly) but tell her there won't be a strange dog in the house, and she's still your #1 cat. For some reason, this works.

I had the same problem with my cat....she keeps peeing there cause she smells the urine...what i did was i went and got lots and lots of the stuff at pet stores that gets ridd of urine odour. i poured it all over and left the couch in the yard to air out ... brought it back in and put vinegar on the areas that i felt still smelt. it seems to be okay now...but when we go out...we have a plastic table cloth cover that we use to cover the couch just to be sure he doesnt pee again. hope that helps!

No, you're no longer terrible yet PLEASE do no longer punish the cat. Spanking and newspapers only would not paintings on cats. All this might do is create a disturbing cat and make the priority worse. i'm assuming you have had him neutered, and this would not sound like spraying habit. Do the older cats %. on him? that is ordinary that he in basic terms does it once you alter the clutter. Do you utilize the comparable variety of clutter each and every time? stay with the comparable variety, and once you alter it, place him in the sparkling clutter container so he has first shot at making it his own. my own cats LOVE being the 1st one in the sparkling clutter. additionally, attempt putting him in the washing room or any small room along with his own clutter container for awhile. i might even have him appeared at by utilising a Vet. different than protecting him outdoors, i do no longer be responsive to. I actual have a cat with the comparable project and that i've got concluded that she's only simple dumb. Cats could be born dumb only like human beings. because of the fact the mattress is her renowned place to pee, I save the door closed yet only in case, I actual have a water-proof mattress pad on the mattress. She additionally likes section rugs, plastic luggage and garments. If I save those issues out of her course she's wonderful. I save an eye fixed on her and if she starts off wandering around the domicile, I permit her outdoors. i attempted to maintain her outdoors yet she cried so pitifully on the door I only did no longer have the coronary heart so i've got desperate to stay with it. A cat like this might in no way get a house so getting "rid" of her isn't an decision. might you get "rid" of your baby if he peed the mattress? i be responsive to that is complicated, have confidence me and there have even been situations i presumed-approximately euthanasia even nonetheless that is in many situations in basic terms a passing concept until I wash the bedding and each thing is stable returned. stable success.

i had the same problem. had to keep the furniture covered with water proof tarps cause she escalated to pooping on the sofa as well. had to lock the cat in one of the bedrooms to make her stop. may seem mean but replacing the sofa or kicking her out is even meaner
