This very well could be an emergency!

Top two things that could be going on: urinary tract infection and/or stones

Stones can cause urethral obstruction (emergency! cat can't urinate!) so prompt evaluation and diagnosis are best.

Stones can also cause urinary tract infection. Cats with urinary tract infections usually urinate frequently and pass small amounts of urine (commonly bloody). Not all cats with stones/UTIs will develop a blockage but are more at risk of doing so.

My advice is if you are at all unsure, take your cat in to be seen on an emergency basis right now. A blocked cat can look just like a cat with UTI and no blockage. A blocked cat is a medical emergency. The only way you know for SURE that your cat is not obstructed is that if you physically watch him/her urinate a large amount of urine.

Blocked cats that are completely unable to urinate will die in 24-48 hours.
Good luck

It could be a number of things. First the cat can have a bad UTI. This can be taken care of with antibiotics. Second your cat can have bladder stones, not kidney, pets only have bladder stones. These can be seen with a x-ray and ultrasound. The next step is to have them removed or change there diet to a bladder friendly food. Hope this helps!

Could be a serious urinary infection, which could also be causing the cat to pee places other than the box. Go see your vet ASAP- UTI's are very painful and can have serious complications in cats- even death!
