I am 25 years old currently a pharmacy technician for 7 & 1/2 years and now wanting a change to become an x-ray technician. How do i know which school to take and fast to get my certification? I did not go to college and don't have any general education. But i would like to go straight into x-ray class. How much will it cost me to do that without community college? I am so clueless, I graduate HS 2002..had my pharm tech license through longs for free and been working for the county doing IV/Chemo. Now thinking about going back to school scares me a lot. I need some guidance on what process to take to become an x-ray tech? i was checking out the sights...what is the difference with x-ray tech and x-ray tech limited scope? which one makes more money...i know theres a ton of x-ray but if you happen to know which makes more income let me know Thanks!! I really can;t wait for your responds;)

kba1a is not entirely correct... besides the military, students follow many paths into radiologic technology. Some attend two-year programs based in hospitals, earning a certificate when they graduate. Other students enroll in two-year programs at community colleges or technical schools, earning an associate degree. And others attend four-year programs at universities and colleges, graduating with a bachelor's degree. With nearly 1,000 accredited programs in the United States, there is probably a radiologic technology school near you. No matter which type of program you attend, you won't spend all of your time in the classroom. You'll also work side-by-side in radiology departments with doctors, nurses and experienced radiologic technologists. During this part of your education, known as clinical rotation, you'll have a hands-on opportunity to practice your patient care skills and fine-tune your technical knowledge.

I personally went through a hospital program and highly recommend it. Besides getting great training, it is much cheaper than college programs. After you graduate from an accredited school, you take a national registry exam. All employers are looking for is that you are ARRT-registered. A bachelors degree is only necessary if you want to go into management someday. A degree does not make you a better tech.

Don't do limited scope - very few places will hire you because there are too many things that you can't do. And a registered rad tech is going to make a lot more than a limited tech.

You can find accredited schools here: http://arrt.org/index.html?content=http://www.arrt.org/nd/listOfSchools.ndm/listSchools&iframe=yes (choose "Radiography")

Your choices are either a community college or the military. Sorry, but that's reality. Any other schools are a rip off. Most schools can help with loans or grants. Your best bet is to contact an administrator with your local college xray dept. and find out what you need to do. I spent approx. 5K (out of district tuition) to go to u/s school.

I can tell you that I would not do anything different. It made all the difference in my life. Good Luck.

Depending on you location for instance in the Philly metro area, Del Tech in Wilmington has a good starter course and then the elite certification program is through Crozer Hospital.
