A correction: Warren Jeffs is the leader of the FLDS Church...not just a member of it.

Thanks for the correction - I guess he would be Mormon but not a member of the true Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
I don't understand the persecution of the idea of Family Home Evening below...most people see it as a good idea...including very renowned psycologists and such...
I love the hymn "If You Could Hie to Kolob" - a beautiful hymn.
In regards to the changes in theBook of Mormon, 99.99% were punctuation/grammar changes because Joseph had no part in the type setting and the original had to punctuation...understand your history before speaking of such things...
Anywho, thanks for the responses so far! Warren Jeffs is a crazy pervie nut and I hope he goes to prison. I hope this encourages the members of his church to start thinking and acting for themselves. It is people like him that give the real LDS church the "cult" label...

I think the press actually did a very good job of making it very clear that he wasnt part of the official mormon church. I just wish they wouldnt call him mormon because people associate the term mormon with the official church.
If Warren Jeffs was part of the official church he would have been sooo excommunicated by now.

Actually, the LDS church's official stance is that the term Mormon may only be properly applied to its members and isn't an accurate The LDS Church believes that "Mormon" may only properly be applied to its members and the Associated Press Agrees with this definition of the term. So no, he's not a Mormon.
Warren Jeff is to the LDS church as the Taliban is to mainstream muslims or the KKK is to southern christian churches, but Warren Jeffs is even more set apart from the LDS church because he's not a member of that church. At all.

99.99% would imply that there have been at least 10000 changes in the Book of Mormon... this is simply not the case. There have, to this date, been 4013 recognized changes in the Book of Mormon. As far as I am aware, only slightly more than 100 of these materially change the meaning of a verse of scripture. I can give you some source material if you'd like. Many of these changes fix timeframe problems, change the name of a person in a verse, or change trinitarian verses to conform to the 1840 shift in the Church's theology from trinitarian to non-trinitarian.
Oh, and by the way, I will second the notion that he IS a Mormon. He's not LDS, and not a member of the largest Mormon organization commonly referred to as "The Mormon Church," but he does indeed belong to the denomination of Mormonism.

He is defiantly NOT a Mormon.
I spoke with someone last night who has seen Jeffs and met Jessop (a counselor of Jeffs?) and they are pure evil. She was thrilled that Jeffs was found guilty, and surprised since they can't seem to get juries to convict these evil men. She grew up in St. George Utah where there are lots of Jeffs followers.
I hope Jeffs goes away for a long time and that this is just the first in many trials to get these evil men that are hurting so many people!

Great you can see the truth through all the fanatics distortion out there
The LDS has always been a torn in our side, we have tried to help them with the necessities of life.
After all they are humans, by being kind to a fellow human, will eventual turn to the good.
That is what happened here, some one from the inside decided to bring the problem to the outside world.
Personally I have worked with some of them, done contract work for them, they are great human being with a very strong testimony of Jesus Christ.

He is Mormon, he is not LDS. The LDS church does not own the term "Mormon" A Mormon is anyone who believes the Book of Mormon is the word of God and Joseph Smith was a prophet.

He is an apostate. This does not make him a Mormon. If you apostatize from the Catholic Church, you are no longer Catholic. Same thing.

Hmmm...you mean he follows the FUNDAMENTALS of the Church that Jos. Smith and Brother Brigham taught and lived? THOSE "fundamentals"?
They'll get their planet before you do!
I'll bet they still sing:
If You Could Hie to KOLOB
If you could hie to Kolob in the twinkling of an eye,
And then continue onward with the speed of light to fly**,
D'ye think that you could ever, through all eternity,
Find out the generation where Gods began to be?
Or see the grand beginning, where space did not extend?
Or view the last creation where Gods and matter end?
Methinks the Spirit whispers, "No man has found 'pure space',"
Nor seen the outside curtains, where nothing has a place.
The works of God continue, and worlds and lives abound;
Improvement and progression have one eternal round.
There is no end to matter; there is no end to space;
There is no end to spirit; there is no end to race.

He claims to be a Mormon. In fact, he claims to be a "true" Mormon, implying that those who do not follow him are not true Mormons.
Whatever he is, he's scum. And, no. I don't think Mormons are scum, just him and his ilk.
