I prefer Nike Dri-Fit. Not so bulky (easier to slip away), not so tinny (more coverage/protection), and you can get them from most local sporting good stores such as Sports Authority.
Mizuno VS-1 is also good, but a little more expensive.

I would buy some spandex. Go to dick's sporting goods or something of that nature and buy some. You probably want to go to the store and try them on because the different brands all fit differently. some ride up more and some are thicker than others. It is entirely a preference thing. I would buy black and navy blue spandex so you have some neautral colors that will match any t shirt you wear. I personally wear a thong with mine so I don't get the "granny underwear lines" or go commando. But if that's not for you then just wear normal underwear, that's perfectly fine too! As for the t shirts any kind is fine, it doesn't have to be volleyball related. But, the more you play vb the more and more and more t shirts you will get. you get high school ones, club (if you play-which i definatly recomend) shirts, tournament shirts, etc. so once you've been playing for a while you will have tons of vb tshirts to wear. Also, see if you coach cares what's on your shirts. I had a coach who would only let us wear club shirts so we would all 'bond together' better. Just make sure your coach is fine with any kind of shirt and you don't have to wear your high school shirts. Have fun!! Volleyball is a great sport! p.s. if you do not already have weak ankles (you've sprain them before) DO NOT wear ankel braces. they keep your ankels from doing the work they normally do and weaken them so it become nessecary for you to wear them. Also they keep you ankel from getting injured but can push the injury up over years and you are at risk of blowing out your knee. If you have something like loose ligaments in your ankles it is ok to wear them, or roll your ankles frequently you may need too. but if not, try to stay away from braces as long as possible. if you watch the olymipc vb athletes, most don't wear braces.

Get slim ones that are not white preffarably black (the white get really dirty really quickly) anyway the knee pads I have are 5$ and worth any penny. I'd suggest the Mac Gregor ones in black make sure they fit and are good for sliding on your home floor.

I like the ones that have cushion in them. The hard ones don't look like they'll give much protection to me.
