I'm so surprised at how many people think Harry Potter is okay. The Bible makes it crystal clear that we should have nothing to do with witchcraft, necromancy, astrology, etc...and yet Harry Potter thrives on all these. Anything that portrays evil as good is not of God. This book is a doorway into the occult and witchcraft. It may be "just fiction", but it's putting thoughts and ideas into our minds which are not of God. The Bible talks about whatever is good, pure, lovely, of good report, trustworthy, etc, think on such things. A wise Christian would do good to stay far away from Harry Potter. It's not as harmless as it seems.

Its a book first started mainly as a childrens fantasy book and then grew to include a much larger audience. It is one of the best series of books I have ever read. The author is very very good and intertwining the books and stories and did an phenomenal job with the ending to tie it all together.
People need to lighten up a bit and not read too much into things like harry potter.

No, those books are not against god. The characters are witches and wizards, but there are no dark satanic ceremonies. They celebrate Christmas, for example. The overriding theme is love. Harry is saved by his mother's love; Harry overcomes Voldemort because, as Dumbledore says, Harry is capable of love and Voldemort is not. There is definitely religous symbolism throughout the series, mostly about sacrificing for others.

is reading harry potter against God? I personally don't think so. The theme in harry potter is goodness and love triumph over evil and selfishness.
Is harry potter himself against God? I don't think God is mentioned in the books.

No.
It is just an adventure story in the fantasy style. It is similar to science fiction stories with the science replaced by magic.
I prefer science fiction, but lately science fiction had degenerated into fantasy. People seem to have lost faith in science and so are turning to magic. Or maybe people just don't understand the science and see it as equivalent to magic. The science fiction writer, Aurthur C. Clarke once said that any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

Harry Potter is a well-written, extremely captivating and entertaining - FICTIONAL story. Its not for or against anything -- it is not about religion -- it is about entertainment!
