I'm a female, 21.... over the past 5 or 6 years, I've gotten really into racing. I am into Nascar, and try to get involved in dirt racing. I work at my home track, Eldora, because I LOVE it. There's no where else I'd rather be. I love the adrenaline, the smell, the country atmosphere... and there's SO much to learn about the sport. Now the question is... when guys realise my passion for racing, are they intimidated?? Do they think this is weird? Think I'm a hilljack hilbilly? Why do they seem to think I'm a freak??

I personally think that would be great. I've been lucky enough to have one girlfriend that was into racing as much as I was. We didn't get married but it was fun. When we weren't racing, we would check out different tracks.

The fact that you are a girl, does make some guys feel uncomfortable when it comes to racing. The truth of the matter is: If you have as much passion for racing as you describe, then pursue your dream. You seem to really enjoy your time at the track, but still are not satisfied being a spectator. There are always people in racing that will give you a chance, to fulfil your goals. I'm sure there are many at Eldora. Remember you have to go after them, they do not advertise for drivers. Another thing to remember, is that when a person has the drive as you describe, they will be an excellent student of the sport. This is particularly true in females. Girls tend to pay more attention to the details and listen to what is being taught. This is why some girls excel in motor sports. I know this is true in all facets of the sport. Guys tend to be set in their ways and are much harder to get to learn the things they need to change. If guys are giving you a hard time about wanting to race, then they are intimidated by you, mainly because they could not compete with you at the level you will be at once you learn the ropes.
Good Luck & Follow your dream.

There are a lot of girls racing in Indiana in different series and some do well. I don't know why anyone would be intimidated, it's not like they're giving you a grenade launcher to use, as women have the same adrenalin punch for racing as any man, once they've tried it. Most women are afraid to put on a helmet and strap into a car, Hey, go for it and don't let anyone intimidate YOU.

I think your choice of series will mean a great deal if you make it or not. For example not many females make it in NASCAR type competition. They have tried but really didn't last more than a season or two. Men in stock cars and trucks for some reason don't want to give in. Shawna Robinson made a good go at it and you have Erin Crocker right now doing OK in ARCA, Tammy Jo Kirk had a rough time in the trucks.
In the open wheel of course you have probably the most popular and a descent driver Danica Patric. She gets better every year. There are a lot of people that can't stand her but it is pretty obvious it is jealousy That is getting to Them. After her Third year she has finished 12th, 9th and now 7th in points. Other than some mistakes on her part and her teams miss calculations on fuel probably should have won one or two races this year.
That Milka Duno is a desent road race driver and she went to IRL and absolutly sucked. I think choice of teams could have been the problem there. They had her driving a raod race chassis on oval tracks and then when they came to the road couse ( which that is the tracks that she drove) portion of there season they sat her out. ????
You can't leave out all though it isn't the type of racing that you have mentioned is drag racing. The guys can't get to you in this sport and women seem to be good competition. Shirley Muldowney once was the person to beat. Today you have a couple ladies on the bikes and the Force girl in funny car. I think there is one in the top fuel and pro stock that are a force to deal with.
I guess as time goes on women will be excepted into the so called stock type sports but right now I am not sure how it would be. It sure would be good for NASCAR if they could sit the drivers down and say so and so id a good female driver and she is going to make a go at it in our series and if I catch any of you taking her out because she is beating you you will be sent to the miners. In other word the HE MAN thing is running strong in NASCAR. They can't stand for a man from another country and series to be in a wreck with one of the regulars what will they do if a girl is in the wreck.
I say go for it but make sure you know what your best bet is in making a career is and I would say stay away from NASCAR.

I think they may be intimidated in the fact they can not BS you about there inflated knowledge of racing. I like to talk to females that now racing they give a different view then most. My wife started getting back in racing when I met her and she loves to be around the track and learn the ins-and-outs.

Well, honestly, you are a freak of sorts. So am I. Normal people who don't get the motorsports thing cannot understand why racers are so addicted to their sport. I am a total addict, which my family just doesn't get, and finding an understanding girlfriend is nearly impossible. Eating peanut butter and jelly and living like a bum just to go racing is unusual to normal people.

Go for it girl! High Octane in your blood there is only one release. Throw a sprint car sidways and slide up to the cushon and floor it lift the front wheels accelerate down the straightaway. USAC Wingless Cars are also challenging. Guy's just don't like beaten by girls.

You lack testosterone. Men have it in abundance. Why does that matter you ask ? You do not have an aggressive nature comparable to a man. We will do some supid stuff ( testosterone/aggressiveness) to win. In such a highly competitive sport - it's a must to be a winner. Girls simply don't have it. I'm not sexist by any means - it's simple fact. We really don't see women as competition just a filler car.

Hell, for once in my life, I'd love to spend time around a female who could actually change a tire herself.
Or, drive a car like there was no tomorrow, and not close her eyes when I decided to pass someone.
I wouldn't be intimidated, I'd be in a dream.
You go girl..... Rocket to the top.......
