If you are a U.S. citizen, you will need some form of state issued identifacation, either a D.L. or a Tx.DPS issued identifacation card, or a current U.S. Passport.
If you are buying a gun from a retailer, then you will have to fill out the transfer forms from the feds.
One of the requirements on the federal forms is some form of legal identifaction.
If you are buying a gun from a private individual then you do not need anything.

In Texas, it may depend on municipality. Obviously Dallas will have different rules than some hick town in West Texas... Your dealer should know the laws.

In addition to a state issued picture ID, some states require you to have a permit simply to purchase a firearm. And some states have a requirement for the purchaser to hold a FIREARMS OWNER ID, aka FOID, before they can make purchase.
Tell us what state you are in, and we might be able to give more definite information.

I'd also say a State issued ID....and a second form of ID with your name and address on it like a home phone bill or your vehicle registration.

Depending on where you live the requirements may be different. As a rule you'll need a picture id from an official agency with your DOB and maybe your SS#. .....George
