I haven't used excel in years so I've forgotten how all the formulas work. I was wondering if there is a way to take the product of many rows without having to enter in the same formula over and over, but with different numbers. Like for example right now I have =PRODUCT(B1,C1) and =PRODUCT(B2,C3), etc. Is there a special way to just make it take the product of all B and C rows with the same number so I don't have to keep entering the same thing over and over?

Yes there is. It is called an array formula and it's pretty easy to use.

Let's say you want to enter the products for all of the rows into column D. Here's what you'd do:

1.) Select Column D
2.) Type in an equals sign (the formula should appear in cell D1)

3.) Select Column B
4.) Type an asterisk
5.) Select Column C
6.) Press Ctrl + Shift + Enter

All of the cells in Column D will have the formula below when you are done.

{=B:B*C:C}

Pressing Ctrl + Shift + Enter defines the formula as an array. The formula is then surrounded by brackets to state that it is an array.

This way you have one formula instead of tons of formulas and there is no copying or pasting or filling down the rows needed.

You can copy and paste your existing formulas into other cells where you want the same result. Excel is smart enough to know that if you go two rows over, or two columns over, it will change/update your formula. I'm an excel guru, so send me any questions you have; happy to help.

good luck.

after you created the formula for the first cell, =product (b1,c1), click the column header (the thing with the letters) to highlight the whole column. then from the menu, click Edit>Fill>Down.

hope that helps...

Make the formula first in one cell. Then once done, Right click the cell and copy. Then highlight all cells that you want the formula to apply to and click "Paste"

Easy.. :-)
