To run Windows games on Linux you need software installed that translates how to the game talks to Windows and DirectX into the language that Linux and OpenGL understands. This is done with Wine based software: Wine, Crossover, and Cedega. Cedega being the top choice for playing games. It doesn't use any of the DirectX software from Microsoft. You can see it takes a bit of engineering to make this work, thus compatibility is not complete and only a portion of the games available run well. Wine programmers have to rely alot on published documentation for DirectX. Since Microsoft and Bungie have alot of inside technical information this makes their games more difficult to run on Wine technology than from other publishers. I checked and it looks like your out of luck for Halo 2. http://games.cedega.com/gamesdb//

There is no such thing as Direct X in Linux. (The major Linux/OS X game development platform is OpenGL, which in my opinion is superior to Direct X as it runs on all operating systems.)
You can try with Cedega, which costs money, or as a previous answer suggests, try wine, although it probably will not work.
Cedega is basically wine with a whole load of things modified specifically for games, as well as being quite a bit more polished.
Other than that, I am afraid you'll have to use windows *cringes at the thought*

probable between the easy-weight distros gives you you better overall performance. something with XFCE or LXDE because of the fact the laptop. Linux is nice for gaming, however the state of gaming isn't good for linux. you will get somewhat some indie titles, yet maximum titles don't have a close-by linux version.
