Losing your limbs and not being able to talk anymore was some heavy stuff on the poor snakes for something a fallen angel did!

The poor guys. I have always had a special sympathy for the snake. Nobody likes them, and for all the wrong reasons. It was a STINGRAY that killed Steve Irwin, people!!!

This will get some thumbs down, but the Christian/Jewish creation story was modeled after an ancient Sumerian story. In most of the creation/early world stories, there is something that is blamed for the end of the "Golden Age". In the Garden of Eden, it's the snake.

Same reason the decedents of the humans were. In the ancient world, the sins of the father were literally the sins of the son. A son could be executed for what his father did.
