Everytime I have a job interview, the interviewer asks me if I have any questions. The first question I always ask is "Why is this position open?" Their answers are uniform, like this "She or he decided to just stay home with his/her family." The job seekers always careful to not lie to them or anything. But, is there posibility that they lie to the job seekers?

Definitely. There is a chance that interviewers lie or 'leave out details' about the last worker. It is much easier and nicer sounding for them to tell interviewees that the last employee left amicably. If in reality, the company or a not so positive aspect of the job was part of the reason that the last employee left, the interviewer is not likely to take responsibility and say 'hey Susie left to go to another company that will pay her more money than we were.' Or whatever. The idea will be to have a positive interview process and not focus on the past, so interviewers will avoid such topics.

Of course nobody lies. Everyone tells the truth, all the time, for the benefit of humanity over their personal benefits...NOT

Of course they may lie. You have to learn to judge if people are defensive. In fact, most managers are good at believing their own lies. Many companies that are losing employees by the truck load will say, oh no, they wanted to take a new job (they took the job because they hated the current job).

Basically there are more bad job opportunities than good ones, simply because the bad jobs need to keep replacing employees.

You can learn to ask questions in a more clever way. Firstly don't ask a question from the start that makes people defensive, and when you ask questions make them positive.

For example, I am interested in a position where I stay for a long time and have opportunities for promotion. Can you tell me whether this position would provide me with such opportunites (they either say "yes" meaning "no" or say "well most of our staff have been with us for a number of years and while we don't promote from within, new positions are always widely advertised to our employees to give them a chance to apply"

You should ask why you should work for them out of all other companies?
