Get cheaper luggage because they don't give a crap.
AVOID DENVER and Phoenix AT ALL COSTS. They send your luggage at ballistic speeds on their high-speed equipment, and it destroys luggage, amputates wheels/feet/handles.

Geez, I saw the prices on Hartmann luggage. Wow I would never spend that much on luggage. The most I have spent is $110 on an American Tourister 26 inch bag. The airlines baggage handlers are tough on suitcases and baggage. I figure my current luggage will last another 3 years maybe depending on how much I travel and the newest piece is only 2 years old. I have a mix of Samsonite and American Tourister which I found out is owned by same company.

I noticed the Chinese in Southern California buying luggage at Costco or Target. I rarely see them in a luggage store. They realize that luggage gets beat up so why spend so much on great luggage. It's just to get your clothes from Point A to Point B and Point C.

When I am in the Far East, I see every name but, Samsonite or American Tourister. I see Polo knock offs, All kinds of different ones. I cannot say there was one brand that stood out. I have been traveling to Asia 2 to 4 times a year for the past 5 years for pleasure.

So as long as the luggage protects your clothes, does not rip, and the zippers are good. Why spend the money?

Oh yeah, I still use a Samsonite 2 suiter, folding, soft sided garment bag after 20 years. It's got a few slashes in the material but, still looks good and is still functional for short trips. And it is basic black. What can I say. Keep it simple.

Good luck.

Travel light - just take the clothes on your back and you're credit card and buy the clothes you need, where you're going - then sell them - before you come back!

In other words - don't have luggage to lose, be stolen or spoilt - use lateral thinking - change the goal posts of life, don't be beaten by it! Maybe just take some carry-on luggage for personal and toiletry items etc.,
