My EOS 30D appears to be having an issue... When I press the shutter button down, it autofocuses almost immediately, but then there is a marked delay when I must hold the button down (the length of which varies from about a half a second to several seconds) until the shutter closes and the picture is taken. This just started happening all of the sudden... I'm wondering if it's a setting of some sort, or if it needs to be sent in for repair.

It isn't autofocusing again... it happens both in AF and MF modes, and the self timer isn't engaged.

IMO its time to sit down and once again READ & STUDY your Owner's Manual.

It almost sounds as though you have engaged the camera's self-timer but that is usually a set time like 5 or 10 seconds.

Have you tried the camera with another lens? Some problems can be caused by the lens. I've seen dirty contacts, bad EF motors in lenses, etc cause problems in cameras. Make sure the lens is fully engaged, (mounted), on to the camera body. You should hear a slight click once the lens is properly mounted on to the body.

if it is on AF then it prob is just trying to focus again. or if you are using the flash it could be the flash charghing. in the same situation, try to take a picture with the autofocus off on the lens and see if it happens. if not then its just autofocusing again

you can get an estimate from canon.com. they have a quick turnaround.mine was about 10-11 days on my 20D and that was a stuck shutter in rapid fire mode.
