The situation with retinal detachment surgery is that the tear or tears need to seal to the wall of the eye. We usually use freezing or cryo to do this, or laser to cause little burns around the tear. This seals the hole so that fluid cannot get under the retina and the fluid that's there is reabsorbed by the pigment/choroidal layers. That fluid is actually pumped out so that the space is kept empty like your chest cavity and your lungs.

So vitamins that help photoreceptors produce retinol or photopigments aren't going to help you heal. Vitamin C would help as it helps cells heal, replace themselves, attach to basement membranes...etc. Orange juice or citrus fruits, or green vegetables (kale is good as it's loaded with good eye stuff but the 'taste' is a little difficult. Broccoli is another wonder as far as vitamins, including C).

It doesn't really depend on whether you had a buckle or pneumoretinopexy or a vitrectomy for the repair. It takes 3 weeks for the retina to be stuck to the wall. After that, tugging on the retina will produce a tear somewhere else, usually at the back of a laser or cryo scar where it's fixed, or tightly attached and won't "give" a little when things tug.

Any of the other wonder eye stuff just don't hold up with research.

No particular foods or vitamins affect retinal detachment.

In general, if you are healthy, especially if your cardiovascular system is healthy, your eyes are healthy. So a healthy diet high in fruits and veggies, low in fat, daily exercise, not smoking, wearing sunglasses and safety glasses when needed are some things that are good for the eyes.

Ocular Nutrition is a great product from Hi-Health.
I have been taking this since I was blinded from a welding accident. The blindness only lasted about 3 weeks but my vision was blurry after that so I heard Paul Harvey talking about this one day and tried it. I am back to 20/20 vision now and believe in this product a 100%.

One of the risk factor of retinal detachment is a history of old retinal detachment in the other eye. For this reason laser treatment of the good eye is mandatory to prevent future retinal detachment.
