You should always have a UV filter on your lens (except when using your polarizer) to protect the front element. It also keeps it clean so you don't have to clean it.

I've used Pentax and PhotoSilk lens cleaning cloths for many many years.

Those front-of-lens attachments, especially the wide angle and telephoto ones, usually don't give very good quality. If Canon offers them you can ask if they can be returned if you don't like them. Since your camera will focus to 1cm IMO you don't need the "macro' or close-up lens.

For your filters you may want to look into the cokin system, it is great and works on multiple cameras.

I use it on my slr's and digital/slr's

Here is the link to their site, once you see how versatile it is you may want it because you will save money and have more filters that work great.

You may also want to get yourself a good tripod. That will come in very useful, especially when using the heavy lenses.
