Why is it that people hate atheists so much?
Did you know that 90% of university professors are Atheist.
Most of the smartest people in our planet do not believe in any main religion. Yet America makes people closet their atheist beliefs.
And don't say i have no proof... They've done poles at the top 20 major universities in the world including Harvard, Oxford, Yale, Princeton and i believe the number was 88% of all PHD are Atheists. the other 12% probably study film.

Einstein refers to a God, but mentions that God has nothing to do with existing religious beliefs since they are simply the invention of men.

It is just that more people are getting comfortable saying they are actually Atheists. It is showing the underlying meanness, bigotry and general sense of fear that the Theist feel.
Traditionally anything they do not understand they destroy if they cannot convert. So it will be with us for a while. I find it hilarious.

While I would't say "discriminated" against. No one is stopping atheists from working or shopping, I would agree that most people who are religious don't like the idea of atheism because it scares them. They think if you don't believe in God you must believe in the devil. I've talked to a few people who believe that way even after explaining to them that athiests don't believe in God or the Devil. They tend to be closed minded on the subject because the stakes are so high to them. Eternal damnation would make you nervous too if you believed in it ...hehehe. I happen to believe in a higher, creative, power and in the message men like Jesus had to give, but I don't think there's anything wrong with not believing it either. How can you ever know if you have the right answer or not? seems sort of arrogant to assume you do regardless of what your belief system is...

Is that why college students commit suicide more than any other age group? By the way, it's "polls," and "against"--not that you're in college yet.
I have friends who claim to be atheists but they also have each come from negative situations and home lives. I do not dislike them but they are bitter in general--not just about not believing in God. I work at a university where there are at least 2 atheist professors who make their students aware of their beliefs from the first day of class which I don't feel is professional, regardless of your religion/belief.
Here's a Poll--see how many atheist groups help others during natural catastrophes, when others need food or financial support or are of invaluable service to their communities, how often do they pray to no one when their loved one is on their deathbed. (By the way, I'm proof that prayer does work).
As a group, their heart isn't connected to a Being Greater than themselves and where your heart is, there lies the core of your soul.

I truly believe the people most vehemently opposed to atheism (or any other belief system that differs from their own) are terrified of the notion of having to question their own beliefs. It is obvious that many of these people have never stopped to question what they have been taught or to contemplate other paths. That is why they always fall back on the same tired arguments and scare tactics to try and convert us.

Lets see ... You answered this question, "What do you think Jesus meant by saying a rich man has less chance of getting into heaven than a camel going,?" by saying, "Stop being religious... You're only fooling yourself."
It amazes me that some atheists say are treated like second-class citizens. Yet of course, some spend most of their day belittling Christians and other religious people.

I wouldn't go that far. Generally smart people tend to be universalist. Just because a person teaches at an Ivy League school doesn't make him/her smarter than the average Joe, just better connected.
It is discriminated in America because it is written into the laws, not to mention the Puritan mores that this country is founded on.

im sorry to say this but on the most part it's hardcore x-tians ( not all) who discriminate the most. just like gays they have themselves believing it will somehow harm their way of life...
it is possible to strongly believe in something and not discriminate, put down, or try to save other points of view! on the most part... atheists or gays or whatever won't affect anyone personal life, but some people have the idea they need to invade other's point of view due to ignorance and fear.

We are discriminated for two reasons:
1) The behaviour of discrimination is in the bible.
2) They know we are right, but they cant admit it to themselves.

People with P.H.D's learn to look at things from every angle. They overthink everything and their minds forget how to understand common sense. Atheism is a ridiculous because the belief stands on nothing. They say an explosion caused the earth to be created. What caused the explosion? That's almost like saying that house over there built itself. Everything that we know today is created from something.
