If you want to drive to Fresno, L.A. and SFO are about a tie. The closest airport with flights from distant cities would actually be Sacramento. Or, as the last answerer said, you can connect to Fresno airport.
If you want to use public transportation into Fresno, flying to Sacramento and taking the train is a good alternative. Check the Amtrak web site.

Fresno has their own airport (its code is FYI (Fresno yosemite
international (yet no international flights use it)
but a few majors carriers (you might have to be on one of those
commuter jets of course for the flight to Fresno
another alternative is not to fly but from LAX you can take
Flyway to the Van Nuys flyway terminal or LA union station then board
a Amtrak bus to Bakersfield then Amtrak to fresno
