It is clear that we are to obey the New Testament and not the Old, and most any sin you want to name is already named in the New Testament as something we shouldn't do.
The Old Testament has us stoning witches, prostitutes, not eating certain foods, doing animal sacrifices, not having the Holy Spirit, keeping the Sabbath and many other things..
Why is there so much confusion in Christians over keeping the Old Testament law and the New Testament laws.
We are obviously in the New, but many are confused by this, why??

When I read these answers and see people all saying something different and claiming that there is no confusion. It is clear that there is a wide variety of confusing beliefs.

I think the root of the problem goes to dividing what were moral laws and what were ceremonial laws.
2 Timothy 3:16,17 - All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
While it is true we are to love God, honor our parents, not steal, not murder, etc. On the other hand, we are not bound by the ceremonial laws of the Old Testament, Christ nailed them to the cross, these included things such as feast days, burnt offerings, new moons, blood sacrifices, incense, etc etc.
So while we learn from the many examples in the Old Testament, we are no longer bound by the Mosaic laws, we abide by the Spirit of the law now.

Who is confused? I certainly am not. I love the Old Testament. It contains examples for us that are applicable under the New Covenant. Many vivid examples in the OT that point to the fulfillment in the NT.

Some people don't understand the difference between being under the law of Moses and being under grace, which can be confusing. Being under grace, there really are no New Testament "laws". The Ten Commandments is still a guide to us, but thanks to Jesus we can now apologize directly to God when we unintentionally break them.

No one is confused by it.... no one that is educated, that is. The bible is simply the musings, history, fairy tales and fears of a group of stone age shephards living in the Middle East 2000 years ago... one horrid place then, one horrid place even today, isn't it. As such, the bible belongs to the Tribe of Israel, and most of it, ot and nt hve been tweaked numerous times by bored scribes for thousands of years. other tribes have their own stories.... the Adam and Eve story comes from Babylon, the 10 commandments from Egypt, and predate Moses by some 1200 years. It's just history, hon. There even some scholars who believe Jesus was more than one man... as was Mary... both as common a name then as Robert and sarah is today....
Take some college classes in bible history and comparative religions to help you out.

The idea of Old Testament and New Testament anything is not biblical. Show me in the bible where it mentions any of these two. Jesus said the old laws are still in effect.
He said it, argue with him. There is no new covenant.

The reason is that Jesus chose to base his new religion on the one he was raised in, Judaism.
If Jesus was born chinese he would have based his new religion on something else.
Jesus was a human being and didn't realize that his new ideas didnt really fit in with the old.
Many believe he wasn't capable of reading the old testament

I agree with Jonathan here who has given a Spirit-filled answer. If you want to be filled with the Holy Spirit you have to be filled with God's Word, the Bible, and he obviously is.

jesus said the law and prophets would stand until ALL was fulfilled... well.... it hasn't all been fulfilled yet
we are not under the "new covenant", we won't be until all know G-d and there is no need for teaching (Jeremiah 31:34)

You can't just throw away your God's Words!
I'm an atheist and even I can recognize that as being the biggest insult and blaspheme against God!
