i just got a new kitten. she came from a busy home with kids, dogs and other animals. i have two cats that do well with other animals. the kitten has been hissing at the cats... i know she probably needs some adjustment time, but does anybody have any suggestions on how to acclimate her to the other cats? thanks

Keep her in a separate room, with food, water, toys and litter box. Go in and spend some time with her a few times a day. Cats seem to acclimate best if they have a limited area to get used to in the beginning. She and the other cats will sniff and get to know each other under the door. Once she seems a bit more relaxed, you can try leaving her door open to let her explore further.

Good luck!

I think most kitties are like that when they are thrown together. My kitty and I just moved back to my mom's and she has a kitty too who is significantly older (10 years) than mine and they chase each other, hiss, growl and that's basically it. Mine is fine and so is my mom's. They just do what they do. I think yours will be fine. Sometimes I give my kitty time in "her" (my) room so the other cat can be free to move around the house without being chased or visa versa. Perhaps you can do that. Keep the new kitty alone in the room and have her get used to the new smells of the other kitties. I was told to do that by a friend of mine who has lots of cats. Hope this helps!
