all are based within the latin language. what, no italian? latin, which stemmed from the italics, earliest form of latin/roman culture, went dormant as a speaking language but greatly influenced the formation of others. i'm not too positive , however, about french as the language arrived and evolved from the earliest gallic form of 'tongue' as is also true of anglo (english) and saxon (german). why are some languages called 'romance' languages, you ask? the root language is latin, latin from rome, hence ROMANace , see? cool!

all originated from Latin, the language of the Roman Empire (Rome is the root word of Romance).

Other Romance languages are Catalan (the Barcelona area of Spain), Italian and Romansch (an obscure language spoken in a few valleys of Switzerland).

Who really knows. They just sound so romantic when you talk in the languages. They probably all originated from the same place though.
