My daughter seems to be quick to pick up words, but not proper pronunciation or short sentences. She still uses a lot of babble too. I do everything I can to help her - I sound it out, I read slow and clear, I don't baby talk to her, etc. But I feel as though she's behind other toddlers her age? Does any one have a similar experience and what came of it? Or is this pretty typical? This is my first child and I keep hearing different things.

I actually was asking myself this question about month ago with my boy (he will be 3 in dec). I read the book "Toddler 411" and it is a great source. It covers alot of bases. I suggest you get it (at library or local book store). It has a Toddler Develpment Checklist on pages 44-45,which gives you a visual of where your child should be at, in all aspects. From Language/Communication, to Social/Intelectuall development. When I read it, I saw that my son is fine. I am not a doctor, but from a mother to another, I can point you in the right direction! ;) good luck!

Babbling is the first part of talking. My daughter had some speech problems, but she outgrew them. Now she only has problems with R's and W's. If your daughter is still not sounding things out in a couple of months, she may need to go to an ear, nose and throat doctor to make sure she's hearing things correctly. (My daughter's had tubes in her ears 3 times.)

Don't worry! I have 3 kids...my oldest is 13 and really didn't speak until he was 2 and not huge sentences until he was 3...same with my other 2. They have all been tested at age 5 and had the vocabulary of 10 year olds.....sooooo don't sweat it! She'll be fine! (I of course worried with my first too but it was a waste of time)

Totally fine, and not at all "behind" - it slowly tapers off. When she's closer to three, you'll suddenly realize that she doesn't babble (but will still love to run ridiculous sentences together).

we watch I little boy who will be 3 in dec. he mostly jabbers too. But his mom talks to him like he's a baby and doesnt make him speak in words. But when he is with us we don't get him things that he whines for like his mom does. It bugs me when parents don't see that they are stunting their growth. But most kids don't speak wellil they are after 3. If it continues past the age of three, then talk to her doc. God bless!!
