JACKSONVILLE, FL –- An illegal alien who hit and killed a Jacksonville karate instructor while driving under the influence of alcohol was sentenced to 10 years in prison Monday.28-year-old Marliano Alberto accepted the sentence as part of a plea bargain. The judge also revoked his license for the rest of his life.Police say Alberto was drinking and speeding when he crashed into 27-year-old Russell Nevado’s car on A.C. Skinner Drive last April.Nevado's family, friends and students filled the courtroom Monday for the sentencing. Several people spoke, including Nevado’s fiancée, Sherry Mendoza.
"Russell represented the meaning of being a true angel,” she told the courtroom. “He lived life to the fullest, putting thought and effort into other people, his family and himself."Nevado was a black belt karate instructor at his family’s studio. He and Mendoza planned to get married, start a family and open another karate studio.

His mother, Marilyn Nevado, broke down in tears as she described the day police showed up at her door to tell her about her son’s death. She says that she didn’t believe them until the officers showed her his driver’s license.

"It felt like my chest had been stabbed many times and someone ripped my heart out of my chest," she said.

She said their family hasn’t been the same since Nevado’s death, but she hopes the sentencing will help them move forward with their lives. Still, she said, burying her son was the hardest thing she ever had to do.

"With no hesitation I would have given my life for my son to have lived longer."

....Her father, Manuel Cargua , was choked with grief and anger that an unlicensed driver with no identification documents could be driving and cause an accident that killed his daughter.

"They are Spanish like us, but we're trying to do the best we can — do everything legal," Manuel Cargua said.

It sounds like you have a personal problem with Hispanics , if you haven't notice they are not the only illegal ppl in this country.... Americas drink and drive too , blacks also do it many of them kill innocent ppl , not just americans.....those who are like the ppl you posted in your question ....yeah those should be deported and send to jail.....but they are ppl who do their best to live a honest life and be civil about many " Americans " not wanting them here , becuase always get misjudge by the ways of the real criminals......it's the same with blacks..... some of them are in the streets selling drugs but some are hard workers and hard students who fight for life , but to most ppl blacks are lazy ppl....are drug dealers......is NOT right to judge ppl by the way some behave....

Hurts just to read it. This has to stop.

To: Nonames, above - Did you happen to notice the names of the victim's mourners? Nevado, Mendoza? Is this a white vs non-white thing for you? Because it isn't for those with our eyes (and hearts) open.

No matter if you are a legal US resident or not, IT IS NEVER OK TO DRINK AND DRIVE! PERIOD!!!!. With that, I would like to know why that makes a difference? I was born here, and if I am stupid enough to drive drunk, I deserve to have the worst punishment put to me when I take an innoscent life. I Live in NM and there are men here who have 19 DUI arrests and stil drive.. Whats up with that?! I don't care if you live here or not, Your stupid to drink and drive period!!!!!!

First off, it is disgusting that this and ALL crimaliens are allowed to remain here at all, but a driver's license too? These stories bring me to the point of literally being sick to my stomach. This is how illegals "contribute" to society? What's worse is now we have to pay for him to be incarcerated for the next ten years, when he should NEVER have been here in the first place. I won't say what I think should happen to the scum bag because chances are, I WILL get my answer reported. My heart goes out to the family who should have never had to endure this tragedy.

I know it will never happen but anyone that drinks and drives should be locked up, if he kills someone he should be taken out and shot.
drinking should be baned and pot should be legal. How many people die from smoking pot?You shouldn't drive while smoking because driving to slow is dangerous too!!!

The family should sue Honduras for sending this guy here and we should bill the home countries for all the illegals that are sitting in U.S. prisons ($23,000 per person in Virginia for example).

Please. I am very sorry that this family went through this, I understand that if this particular gentleman hadn't been in the US, this young may would probably be alive. I am truly sorry for that. It sucks. Policy has to change. Agreed.

The slant of your question: What do you think about this- do you truly expect anyone to say it is great or similar? Aren't you just trying to get people more angry and more "riled" up?

Being killed by a drunk with citizenship is better?

What about the illegal who took a bullet for an old lady he didn't even know in L.A.? Did it even make your local news?

of course one doesn't have to be an illegal alien to kill another when driving drunk, and this says more to me about the dangers of DWI.
But the reality is, this never would have happened had the illegal alien not violated our border.
