I have a pet budgerigar. Strangely though she follows my dog (a bichon frize) around and likes to climb up her fur and play with it with her beak she even chases her and my dog gets afraid lol. Is this normal for parakeets to do this?

YES! Parakeets and dogs get along great! Parakeets are really a lot like dogs - only with feathers. Let them enjoy their fun. My budgie greets my daughter when she comes home from school, and follows her around- just like a dog. He even flys downstairs to the gameroom to be with us when we're watching T.V.

Normal I don't know, but I have a cockatiel that loves to ride on the backs of my huskies. At first, one of my dogs would snap at my bird when it would fly near her. I punished the dog. Then I praised her when she just left it alone. Now my bird can walk on the floor without either of my dogs moving.

One last note: Birds and Dogs can get jealous of each other for your attention.

Aww! So cute. It's perfectly normal. Your parakeet sounds so sweet! They're just being playful. Sooner or later the dog will get used to the bird and you'll see your dog walz into your room with a birdy on his/her back!

It can be deadly. Please do not allow you bird out with dog around. In a second the dog could decide to kill the bird. I have heard it more times then I care to know. Also dog, cat, and human saliva is fatal to birds. I would not risk it ever.

Not only can they be friends, but your bird could very well learn how to bark, if she doesn't already.
