Exodus Chapter 21, verse 20:
If a man beats his male or female slave with a rod and the slave dies as a direct result, he must be punished, but he is not to be punished if the slave gets up after a day or two, since the slave is his property.
(Not only does God condone slavery, but he is also completely comfortable with the concept of beating your slaves, as long as you don't kill them. )
AHH, the bible is sooo perfect and all about "LOVE"

YEs, sir, the bible is about love; but also about knowledge. Had you not just pulled a simple verse from the chapter and read the ENTIRE chaper, you would see that the rules are very clear; there was indeed SERVITUDE. After six years, the person could choose to proclaim that he loved his lord of the manor and that he chose to stay on; but after those six years, regardless he was free to leave. Also If you started with verse one, the person doesn't HAVE to sell themselves into servitude; they CHOSE to. Verse 16 clearly states that a man will be put to death for stealing a man to make him into a slave or to sell him as one. To do so would not have been an indetured servant; it would have been slavery, which YOU speak of, and which is clearly wrong. The Lord had just freed them fro the bonds of slavery for pity's sake; how did you not get this?

Yes, yes you should beat your male or female slave as long as you do not kill them, for they are your property....BUT due to abolition f slavery, you can't own slaves, and you cannot beat down anyone without having three basic reasons: 1.) Opportunity 2.) Ability 3.) Jeopardy. BUT I guess since it's the old testament, it doesn't apply, so if that's the case, why is there still the old testament in some Bibles? -_- Hope I helped!! ^_^

Do you tickle your brain through your nostril while you think up this stuff? These laws were made up by men -- they weren't inspired by God. God has a way of chastising anyone who gets "off the path". If I were you, I'd be worried about what's in store for you!

I have read the Old Testament. You posting these verses will never change what I believe about God.

That's great that you follow the Bible so closely! So I'm sure you also love your neighbor as yourself...you love your enemies...you must be able to quote the Love chapter by heart (hint: here it is below)....and surely you know that God loves us so much that He sent Jesus to die for our sins, including for you!
1 Corinthians 13 -- The Excellence of LOVE
1If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have LOVE, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
2If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have LOVE, I am nothing.
3And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned, but do not have LOVE, it profits me nothing.
LOVE is patient, LOVE is kind and is not jealous; LOVE does not brag and is not arrogant,
5does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered,
6does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth;
7bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
8LOVE never fails; but if there are gifts of prophecy, they will be done away; if there are tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be done away.
9For we know in part and we prophesy in part;
10but when the perfect comes, the partial will be done away.
11When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things.
12For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known.
13But now faith, hope, LOVE, abide these three; but the greatest of these is LOVE.
Yes, the Bible IS so full of LOVE! Isn't is too bad that more people can't see that LOVE as we can! God bless.

The Old Testament was written for children(metaphorically), I would assume that the abolishment of slavery would be akin to doing away with credit. what would happen to our economy?
We have evolved, thank heavens.

Since you are NOT Hebrew, then I assume that you would BE the slave, not the master.
Good think that we are under the New Testament now, aren't we?
