I have 4 kids, 3 of them could say a full sentence sometime between 18-24 months, but my middle daughter talked early and said her first sentence, "Be right back" when she was 15 months old. My kids are now 28, 26, 22, and 10 and I have been a child care provider for 20 years. Speech development is individual for each child. I have cared for other early talkers, who spoke 2 word sentences before 18 months and I have cared for children as old as 2 1/2 who only had a few understandable single words.

About 2 1/2 years. Not much at first but he just turned 3 and speaks in sentences all the time. All kids are indeed different though. My neice was saying complete sentences before she was 2. And boy did my sister ALWAYS make comparisons. Grrrr.... LOL!!! If your child is older than 3 1/2 to 4 years old, you might look into a speech program.

My son went to nursery in his early years. Until he was 2 years old. As a first time mom I was not concerned about his speech until I heard all the other kids nattering and he was not. I was so concerned. I took him out of nursery when I lost my job and his speech come on because I took a lot of time with him. Hes 3 and half now and chatters way more than most kids his age.

My point is every child is different and develop in their own time.

If you have real concerns visit the doctors just to make sure there is no physical problem to prevent speech.

I remember specifically when each of my kids spoke their first complete sentence. My daughter was 23 months old and she said, "Mommy and Daddy rake up all the leaves." My son was 21 months old and he said, "Please open the window a little bit." They are now 11 and 18 years old so I guess you could say it's in my long term memory!!

My son is starting to do that now, although it's not always completely clear sentences, but he's using many words together to make a sentence. He turned two in June.

my son was 18 months (ish). Although it's not like he was saying complicated sentences....more like;
"I like the doggy" or something to that affect, he's 3 now, and talk like a little grown up :)
