animals try to hide when they are hurt, so I definitely think you should take the cat to the vet asap. It sounds like a bladder issue and this can be very serious and fatal.

Sounds like something is wrong with your cat...definitely sounds like he is in pain. It concerns me that you said he is not using the litter box. Is this a male cat? If so, they can get blocked and not be able to urinate. Is he yelping while in the litter box. If he is blocked...this can be life threatening and he needs to see a vet ASAP!

I don't understand. What does yelping have to do with its being hot outside?
If your cat is yelping, either it is in pain and you need to take it to a vet, or it is in heat (if female)or wants to go find a cat that is (if male..

heat may have nothing to do with the cat yelping. take kitty to the vet. his teeth may be bad or maybe he is having some kidney trouble. he maybe trying to tell you he is in pain. is his ltter box accessible to him and it is clean? does he have food and water?

I agree with the other forum members - your cat is either hurt or hungry or something.
