then why didn't god just build the boat himself and save noah all the trouble?

It makes a much better story, don't you agree, to say that a man built this huge boat on orders from god. And remember, the editors of the bible said to perspective biblical contributors: "If you don't have a good story to supplement your god-happening, don't bother to submit it to us." Thus we now have the impossible fairy tale of Noah and his ark.

Zion has the right reason....imagine all the people that saw Noah building the Ark for all those years and probably laughed at him and rejected the notion of a coming flood and would not repent. It's hard to imagine a world full of such wicked people that only the eight people of Noah's family were the only ones worth saving. God could have done it many different ways---this is just how he chose to do it.

The Bible says that Noah built the ark for 120 years.The lenght taken was as an expression of Gods mercy and longsuffering.
During this period the people had sufficient time to turn from their sins and be saved on the ark.
