I look at a much larger picture now. That picture is of Jehovah's Standards and His Will for us. He must come first in my life over anyone in my family. I do have family that think I'm nuts and will not talk to me. That's their choice, not mine. They call themselves Christians. They don't follow Jesus' example.

I'm sure others have bigger sob stories than I do, but when I became a Christian at age 26, my sister quit speaking to me (and that relationship is still fractured), my boyfriend of *years* fell out of love with me and dumped me and the company I was working for went under. I know this the last two don't fit the verse exactly, but I think most people who become Christians end up losing relationships over it especially if they are adult converts.
I can only imagine what it is like to become a Christian in a country that actively persecutes and/or prosecutes Christians. Many people have been threatened with death or have been killed by their governments and by members of their own families! How heart wrenching. Still, many of them persevere, because once you have Christ, the pull is too strong to let Him go. I remember so vividly thinking --- for a couple of years after I got saved --- how much I had lost, and was it worth it? Even still I could *not* let Him go. Once you know the truth, how can you abandon it, even if you're not a fan of it all the time? Now my mind has turned and I don't view this as a loss compared. No matter what I 'lost' I gained Christ! I wonder how many other Christians have had similar experiences?

It has affected my wife. This is what happens when family members are involved in cults. Division occurs people are unbiblically shunned. This is because Jesus is the ONLY truth.(Jn. 14:6, Acts 4:12) As a result other "truths" clash with His and a man's enemies are with his own household.
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Heb. 4:12

John 7:39 yet this He spoke with regard to the Spirit, whom those believing in Him could get carry of; for the Holy Spirit became into not yet given, by using fact Jesus became into not yet glorified. John 20:22 And while He had mentioned this, He breathed on them, and mentioned to them, “get carry of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:33 consequently being exalted to the main appropriate hand of God, and having gained from the daddy the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you at present see and hear. The HOLY SPIRIT got here from GOD the daddy too.. So, you're saying --- The HOLY SPIRIT isn't GOD? JESUS mentioned, Matthew 28:19 go consequently and make disciples of each and all the countries, baptizing them in the call of the daddy and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, who's GOD to YOU? a million Corinthians 12:4-6 New King James version (NKJV) 4 There are diversities of presents, however the comparable Spirit. 5 There are alterations of ministries, however the comparable Lord. 6 And there are diversities of activities, in spite of the shown fact that it is the comparable God who works all in all. CLAIMING JESUS CHRIST did not exist sounds DEMONIC.

My goodness! Does that honestly happen with families? I live faraway from my family and my husband's family doesn't live that close by us. My older sister is a devout Catholic and is her family. The rest of my family does not belong to any religion in particular. I am studying the bible but since I am early into it, I have not mentioned anything to no one except on here. But if that is the case, then I just better not say anything. Anyway they are far away and probably wouldn't care less. I'll tell them the good news when I get baptized. Now that sounds good!

I have a sister who says "don't shove it down my throat".
She has problems abounding and has made it her own decision to tell me "I don't need your preaching". Therefore, sister has come against brother and each of us will be judged accordingly when our time comes. Therefore, judgment will come upon herself of her own choosing, just as I will also fall under the same judgement. The same goes for members of your family, regardless of how one tries to hide under their robe of "religion", or change their denomination because they don't believe in what the gospel says.
Revelation 21
8But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur.
27Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life.

I lost my family, but for my youngest son, my daughter had been studying the Bible with a sister, as soon as she found out that I had become a Witness, she stopped studying, I still work at being of a "quiet and mild spirit" who knows?
My life is now for Jehovah, and that will not change. Indeed, if the government told me I could not worship Jehovah, I would continue serving my God.

I have seen many people turn against me, even some members of my family who claim to be Christians. They do so because I seem to maybe mean it a little more. It just means that those who really believe and those who claim to believe will be at odds, as well as those who don't believe at all.

I truly appreciate this scripture because I now understand why there is sometimes so much conflict in my family (as well as others)
this verse has helped me personally deal with the conflicts and to see why they occur

I have lived inside this verse. My father, before he called on the name of Jesus for salvation four days before he died, did not believe in the bible or in the Jesus of the bible. We never argued about it, but it did cause division, because I am passionate about the gospel of Christ. I prayed for him for ten years. Thank God for that answered prayer.
I have another sister who does not want me to answer any of her questions about how to be happier in life, how to change things that are going wrong in her life, with anything to do with Jesus. *smile* ah, I've come this way before. Prayer, prayer and more prayer.
There is nothing impossible with God.
