Atkins died of head trauma, he fell down..Yes he did have heart problems, but he may have been born with them, how many people in america are born with heart problems, that doesn't mean his diet was bad, and also Atkins diet isn't just fatty bacon and eggs, and cheese, its also chicken, steak, turkey and other things good for you, and later in the diet u can eat fruit and low carb bread, whole grain stuff, so why the hell is everyone saying how bad it is, I lost alot of weight, and my cholesterol, and Blood pressure went way down, along with my blood sugar level, thats better than before.

Yes, Atkins DID have VIRAL cardiomyopathy. This means his heart issues were caused by a virus, not by his diet.
I've been doing Atkins for over two years, I've lost 67 pounds and my health has improved considerably.

Probably some idiot like Richard Simmons made that story up so people wouldn't spend their money on Atkins diet products/books, and would instead run out to buy his "deal a meal " and dance tapes where he frolics around in glittery spandex. The dieting industry is a HUGE one! No one wants to lose millions to a man who figured out a diet that REALLY works! What better way to stay rich than to make up a lie?

The story exists because it is the belief that his diet would lead to a heart attack. The absolute opposite is true. Anyone familiar with the true Atkins diet knows that. You can do this lifestyle even if you are not dieting. It is healthy and it allows your body to achieve to the best of its ability.

The story I always heard was that he slipped on some ice and hit his head. The injuries were bad enough to end his life. I don't know where the rumor about the heart attack came from. It sounds like one of those stories that keeps being repeated until most people who hear it believe it's true.
