is because if it is true, then all this "progress" humanity has made and technological/scientific advances have all been completely pointless? Everything humans have accomplished has just been a waste. Everything we do is meaningless. Everything we know amounts to nothing...
If God exists, then He is all that matters. Is this what bothers you the most?
and if He does exist, how would you feel about it? Would you change and follow His law?
*I'd also like to point out that none of you truly know who He is, calling Him a "dictator", "tyrant"...etc, is wrong. As a man, He would be kind, caring, loving, compassionate, understanding... alot like Christ, I suppose.
So is this the type of guy you would follow? If so, then you truly 'know' what is important. If not, then... I, honestly, wouldn't know what to say to that... it's your loss, i guess... a very eternal one.

Maybe we just don't like others trying to shove their beliefs down our throats and up our hinder parts.

No, absolutely everything you wrote is completely wrong.
Rather, if God exists, then wouldn't your faith in God and in Jesus be all that matters? All this "progress" humanity has made would be pointless anyway, huh?
The computer you are using? A waste. The doctor who can save lives because of medical research? Meaningless. Your "knowledge" of God? Nothing.
And I also don't need you (nor anyone else) to tell me who God truly is; I've read the Bible many times, and actions speak louder than words. He certainly doesn't fit my definitions of kind, caring, loving, compassionate, and understanding in the translation that I have.

Ummmmm ..... no.
Atheists don't feel strongly against a god. They don't believe there is a god.
You should also note that not all atheists are not spiritual. Buddhists are atheists in that they don't believe in a God in the Christian sense. They believe in the inherent divinity of each individual.
Atheists in the sense that most Americans understand are simply those who choose not to accept on faith that which cannot be proved. One does not accept the assumption that God exists merely because he cannot understand how things came to be.
Atheists don't call some god a dictator or tyrant. What they say is that the being described in the Bible acts as such.

Why do Christians feel so strongly against the Flying Spaghetti Monster and Invisible Pink Unicorns?
Could it be because if your wrong your whole lives would've been meaningless? Could it be because you would've wasted all this time worshiping a false God? Would your lives be pointless because you would have nothing to live for anymore? Is this what bothers you most?

If we suddenly found out God did exist, then I wouldn't be ashamed to admit that I was wrong. As for all our advances being pointless, that is not true. Even if we knew God existed, we still have to live on this earth. Science and technology have done more than simply attempt to prove or disprove God. God is obviously not at all like Christ as he allows so much suffering in this world. Sometimes I think he gets a kick out of seeing us all suffer on a daily basis. People getting mugged on the streets, gangs shooting up the neighborhood, terrorists blowing themselves up. Its like we are a comedy show on his giant screen TV. I don't feel a loss at all in not believing in God, in fact I feel less stressed than those who do. One less thing to worry about.

You think God wouldn't be a dictator or tyrant? Let's compare him to good old Saddam then:
1. They both insist that people only follow their religion, on pain of death or torture.
2. They both demand absolute obedience, with no compromise and harsh penalties for straying.
3. They both force themselves on their people. You didn't vote for God. Hell, you can't even vote for your church leaders.
4. Both have huge egos. God himself said in the ten commandments that he is a jealous god (ironically, this means that he can't be without sin). Both believe that they are always right.
5. Both have killed a lot of people, often for no good reason. Both have started dozens of wars against people who don't follow their way of thinking.
6. Saddam controlled his masses by military force. God controls people by messing with their minds. In Exodus, he "hardened" the Pharaoh's heart just as he was about to let the Israelites go, so that he could continue to plague Egypt.
In summary, while Iraq is no picnic, I would rather be there than heaven. At least with Iraq you can look forward to death. Heaven is eternal.

I think alot of atheists would agree because when you base how you live your life around irrationality its no wonder there are so many wars because of religion.
How is scientific progress a waste if god doesn't exist? That just shows how capable humans are WITHOUT some magic man in the sky telling them what to do.

If all of this is pointless, why haven't you given up everything and moved into a cave (you obviously haven't or you wouldn't be on a computer).
I do believe in God, but I'm opposed (as are many atheists) to the FOLLOWERS of Christianity because some of them have become extremists who want to push their brand of religion on everyone else and legislate morals in Washington.

as a non-atheist, I can point out that you are making strong assumptions which are completely rooted in your perspectives. You are either failing to see that others have a genuinely seperate point of view, or you are unwilling/unable to attempt a genuine understanding.
I'm sure it must be comforting to explain away people who think differently with a few convenient summaries, but this is no different than other people assuming Christians are all delusional (I do not believe this).
To get respect, you need to give respect. You don't do this by setting up straw men (false arguments that are easier to knock down).

Mato please dont let that discourage you from becoming a christian/seeking God
as for not seeing the proof of the existence of God the bible says
Roman 1:19-20 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. (20)For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
everything around us is a result of God, Earth, people (languages, the mind, the human body which is an amazing invention), animals, we do not exist for no reason, if you took a look at this world and how eveything moves/works and is structured u would start to realise that they has to be something (God) out there that has created this, because nothingness can not create nothingness there has to be a creator, Imo God is far beyond our comprehension

Whoa, WHOA mythconception! All the progress humanity has made was simply due to nerdy men hoping to improve their shot at getting laid. Nothing more - has zip to do with the glorification of a god. And why do you give a baboons butt what us atheists think? Especially since you're so positive you're right and we're all wrong? We don't give a crap one way or another - we just don't want religion legislated. Nothing more, nothing less.
