Some really poor answers here by anti-Christians.

1) Most widely read book - worldwide
2) Most frequently-referenced work in Western literature.

You know how you have to learn classic mythology in school because there are so many literary references? There are far more references to the bible than to any other single work in Western literature. It amazes me that schools do not require their students to read the bible as literature.

Let's just look at even from a secular perspective. It is the most widely read and distributed book in history, and is now available in about 98% of the world's languages... at least in part. It has survived attempts throughout history to, if not destroy it, at least keep it from the masses. Those that were to spread it's message, true Christians, were tortured and killed.

Read the account of William Tyndale and his battle to translate the bible into the language of the people.
