I'm 18. My mom is getting married and my new stepfather wants to adopt me even tough I'm 18. My father died when I was a kid so my mom has my custody. I read that it is possible if both parts agree to it. And I also read that in the state of Maryland (where I live) any person of any age can be adopted. The thing is that I was born in Spain. I've been there for about 2 years. My papers are filed but as always it takes a long time. So my stepfather wants to adopt me so we can get the papers faster, because he wants to take us for a vacation in Europe. But don't get me wrong, is not all because of getting the papers faster, he is a great man and he has show me what a father is. My dad died when I was a little kid so I never knew what was like to have a father. And he is been there for my mom and me. And I was so honor when he asked me to have his last name... Anyway, can he really adopt me? Is there any legal issue that may arise?
Any help would be greatly appreciated...! =)

I would think it should be doable.

Just make sure that if you want to keep a copy of your original birth certificate with your natural father's name on it, that you get a copy of it now, because even as an adult adoption, your b.c. will be altered to reflect your a-dad as your father.

Just something to consider, if you don't want to completely wipe away the existence of your natural father.

It's easier to adopt an "adult" than it is a baby! No parental notification has to be done (although this does not apply in your case. And I live in PA like the other answerer... My 2 kids (19, and 21) were adopted by my husband and it went seamlessly.

You are technically an adult so you can sign rights over to anyone you want to.
