I am finally able to do baptisms fo the dead with my young wonen's group, but I have no idea what to expect. Do I need to remove my nail polish? Can I wear jewlrey or makeup? How should I dress? Do I need to take anything? What should I expect when I get there? Any help would be appreciated, and if you're just going to bash the chuch please go elsewhere. Thanks in advance!

well I too am a member and I can tell you that you shouldnt wear any jewelry or any make-up just dress as if you was going to sacrament and just be yourself. Its a good experience to go through....I myself was in for a big surprise...but Im sure you will do well and feel good inside that you are doing something good for heavenly father. Oh and yes try and take your nail polish off!!! just an f.y.i. you have to wear all white but extra clothes for afterwards and i think thats about it. you'll be fine

Talk to your Young Women's leader. They will have the details for you.
Wear white underclothing so it won't show through the baptismal clothes when they are wet.
Bring a second set to change into when you are done.
No jewelry should be worn, it will get in the way.
Put your hair up in a pony tail or braids so that it won't float to the surface during the baptism requiring another dip.
Relax. There are people there to help you every step of the way.

Take off your jewelry. You don't want to loose that. If you have long hair, make sure you have a white hair tie. Other than that, read up on Baptisms for the dead in D&C. Don't think of these names as just names. They are people. The most important preparation is spirital preparation. Keep yourself clean and worthy.

Oh. And if you're on your period, do tell one of the matrons (female temple workers) or your Young Women's leader. Don't have to advertise it to everyone, but just let them know. You'll seriously thank me later.

Just enjoy the experience, the feelings and the Spirit there. There will always be someone to help you or show you/tell you what to do. I wouldn't wear make-up or jewelry (you really shouldn't). Nail polish is fine, but I would keep it conservative. Just wear what you'd wear to church, a dress or shirt and skirt.

Ask other girls who have been before, or you leader. Yahoo answers is not the best way to get sound advice if you're Mormon :)

I think I can tell you about my experience without offending anyone, I am ex-mormon, from UT. I went to the main temple (i had log many hours getting names of people who had past away as well) on temple square. My Mutual teacher took me, I could be wrong, it has been so many years, we all went as a group, we dressed, as they said, like we were going to a sunday school meeting, we went to the lower levels of the temple, almost like the basement of the temple and they gave us each a locker and a white jump suit to change into. After changing, we all gathered togther and were showed into this big room with the babtismal font with the 12 bulls all around it, filled with water. Each girl took her turn and they all got a certain amount of turns all got dunk over and over again, a person watched to make sure she was dunked all the way over or it was done over again for that paticular person. Your name was said and then FOR that paticular person. Your turn was up and you got dunked a couple of times, hardly any time to see if the person shows up to thank you for the babtism. Then you go and change and you leave.

nail polish- I think ok, as long as it's not some real radical color.

Jewelry- simple, small earrings and rings, everything else can be left in your locker.

Dress- Sunday-go-to-meeting clothes. WHITE underwear!

I think you take a second pair of undies. everything else is provided. Everyone at the temple will help you.

Dead people aren't going to do much complaining. Good luck.
