It seems that people on here who want to put down religion have no clue as to what it is about. they have never researched anything for themselves out of their own "fear, ignorance, and hypocracy".

I assume that with this question we are speaking of Christianity because if so, this is what I have to say.

Christianity is not a religion, it is a relationship. a Christian seeks to have a living, breathing and hopefully thriving relationship with God and Jesus our Savior.

It's not about how much scripture you know although that is essential to your daily walk. If you read the Bible you'll see that even the devil can quote scripture and he does so directly to Jesus, except that the devil takes scripture out of context and Jesus corrects and combats him with other scripture.

Now I respect the fact that there are people who do not want to have a relationship with the God I worship, that is a personal choice because it is a personal relationship. In fact I have many friends who do not have this relationship or have their own spiritually, but I am here if they ever want to be introduced.

It boils down to this we all have the right to live our lives the way we want, I won't impede on your rights, after all, the Lord never forced anyone to come and believe, and please do not impede mine. And should you ever be curious about my relationship, I will be more than happy to share.

But that's just me :) :) :)

No it doesn't. You're just making that up, kid. There's no sign at all here that those opposed to religion do so out of ignorance. You may want to believe that, but you have to bury your head deeply in the sand to convince yourself. Doesn't the fact that you have to be so dishonest to defend your beliefs tell you something about the quality of those beliefs? It should.

For your three verses, how about "He who believeth and it baptized shall be saved", "by faith are ye saved through grace, not works, lest any man should boast", and "and He saw it was good". Yes, that's off the top of my head.

Now stop lying about others who don't share your beliefs, kid.

I'm not opposed to religion (would be rather difficult to maintain the fact that I'm clergy if I were opposed to religion), but I am opposed to any religion that purports to be THE ONLY TRUE one for all people on Earth.
I do not in any form believe in a universally correct religion.
And yes. I can quote massive sections of the bible (King James Version, at least... that's what I grew up with, and studied at seminary).

Can you quote three verses from the Havamal? Or the Vedas? How about three parts of the Wiccan Rede? Or three verses from the Talmud? How about three verses from the Qu'Ran?

Or better yet.... Can you quote three hypotheses from The Voyage of the Beagle? Or A Brief History of Time?

To illustrate... here are a few bible verses which I'm quite certain are appropriate in this situation:

From the book of Matthew, chapter 7:

1: Judge not, that ye be not judged.

2: For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

3: And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

4: Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?

5: Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

Have a day.

I've read the bible cover-to-cover twiice. I didn't memorize it. I can tell you it claims the world was created, that Cain slew Abel, that Jonah lived in a fish belly, that Noah built an ark, that JC told someone to just take a donkey, that Timothy says women shouldn't be allowed to teach - but most importantly, I can tell you none of what it says matters because it is merely the superstitions of an ancient tribe (or tribes) and no one sane can take it seriously - if they actually read it cover to cover, not just picked out verses they don't think about.

If god so loved the world, why did he create hell to save us from, and what kind of father tortures his own son instead of just changing the rules he made? Only some really sick SOB could think this book has anything moral to add to society.

How exact do you want them? I mean it's been decades since I have read the trash. Believe it or not, many of us were formerly Christians, and some like me, learned quite a bit more about the history of Christianity. I think it's your ignorance that allows you to believe in religion. If you took time to learn about how perverse the popes were, and how cruel people have been under the guise of religion, I don't see how you or anyone could believe in any religion.

The only verses that come to mind are the ones advocating slavery and rape.
I think if youve read the bible yourself youd be plenty aware of it.
What you don't realize is most atheists have read the bible.
I went to a catholic school most of my life and was well aware of the atrocities in the bible.

John 14:13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14:14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
14:28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.

John 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God,
and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

1John 2:22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist,
that denieth the Father and the Son.

Exodus
21:24+ Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.
21:17 And he that curseth his father or his mother, shall surely be put to DEATH.
23:? And thou shalt take no gift - for the gift blindeth the wise and perverteth the words of the righteous. (Shall I sing "We three Kings" here?)
Or.. 35:2 Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day there shall be to you an holy day, a sabbath of rest to the Lord. Whosoever doeth work therein shall be put to DEATH.

Exodus and Leviticus are my absolute favorites. :D
But, as my mama says "they don't count, they're Old Testament". Go figure. Can't have your BBQ and Leviticus, too.

Lev ... these shall ye not eat of them that chew the cud, or of them that divide the hoof: as the camel, because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof ... he is unclean unto you .. and the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be cloven footed, yet he cheweth not the cud ... he is unclean to you.

Matthew 18 (probably the ones I actually USE the most):
8 n 9 Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee [...] And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee ...

Ezekiel saw the wheel - way up in the middle of the air. So much is said about Islam and warnings and smiting folks - but it's laid out in Ezekiel, Chapter 3 - under "terroristic threats".

And the "Golden Rule" is Confucius, Analects, Book 15:23:
What you do not what done to yourself, do not do to others.
What you do not wish upon yourself, extend not to others.
Do not do to others what you do not want them to do to you.

I am not opposed to religion, but I must note that your question is irrelevant -- as worded.

most religions do not use the bible, and one can address religion as a concept without studying specifics of each and every religion.

I think you intended to mean solely Christianity. If so, you would do well to note that "religion" and "Christianity" are not neccessarily the same thing.

Now give me three verses from William Blake.
