Immediately after you shave, preferably after a hot shower (within the first couple minutes of getting out), when the pores are still open, apply unscented Aveeno with menthol. The menthol will cool the skin and the oatmeal will reduce inflammation.

If you don't like Aveeno, just make sure you have something that isn't scented (scents irritate the skin) and is non-cosmedogenic (that is), it doesn't clog your pores.

Also, make sure you are only shaving one way, preferably WITH the grain of the hair, not against the grain. Therefore only ONE way, not up AND down and side TO side--this irritates the follicles which results in your folliculitis.

Good luck! :-)

Use liquid hand soap(not body wash) and wash the area as if you was using a facial scrub. Rinse, then use your shaving cream. The soap is like a "primer". It helps soften the skin for a smoother shave, reducing irritation and bumps.
