When was morphine first used in civilian hospitals as a relief for pain?

no i believe it was used on the battle field they carryed a little box like with the medication and the needle i think cocain was first on the battle field because it helped them fight longer and stay awak then they relized it wasnt good for you then they treated the ppl who were sick from cocain withdraws for morphine i Saw this whole show about it
