The lactic acid that makes my eyes water. Other than that, I love to use onions when I cook. But a trick I learned really prevents your eyes from stinging and watering while cutting up an onion. All you have to do is take a single matchstick and place it in between your lips so that the piece you would strike to light is sticking out, and you are biting on the other end. Sounds odd but it works.

Nothing I put my onions in the refridgerator. This keeps them from releasing the vapors that cause you to tear up.

the vapor from onions bring tears in my eyes. they say the tears and burning is strong if u are a jeoulous person. Old Indian saying.

I hate the way it makes me tear up. It stings my eyes and I have to stick my head out the window to breath in fresh air.

the smell and they hurt my eyes. its hard to get the smell off of your hands, but I love to cook with onions. : )

they make my eyes water and my hands smell like onions. but i either rub lemon on my hand or rub my hands on something stainless steel to remove the smell.
