I am 25 had mammo because lump was felt by me and doc. Had mammo they didnt see lump but increased density want ultrasound. I just want to know what most women have experianced when they where diagnosed, through the testing. I am just scared even if they find nothing suspicious because my grandpa was mis diagnosed several times by the time they figured out what he had they only gave him 3weeks to live he had terminal cancer, my aunt was diagnosed with bc at 32 and now my uncle has stage four lung cancer(never smoked) no one in family does they have no idea how it developed. They are all my paternal side of the family. I am just scared of being mis diagnosed.

So please share your test, diagnosis stories thanks.

Tarkarri had some great info for you, so I won't rehash that. I can give you some info on the mammogram results though.

Young breast tissue is dense, and it appears white on mammographic film. All signs of breast cancer (both a mass/lump or microcalcifications) are also white. It is very difficult to find abnormal, white pathology through normal, white, dense breast tissue. It is kind of like looking at a photograph of the snow covered ground and trying to find a volleyball. And that is one of the reasons why we do not do mammography on young women. It very rarely gives any helpful information.

Your mammo results are essentially saying that you have dense tissue in the area where you are feeling the lump. Did the mammographer put a BB marker on your skin, where you feel the lump? The radiologist is saying that he can't tell if anything abnormal is there because you have normal dense tissue there. So, an ultrasound is a good way to evaluate this area. The ultrasonographer can place the transducer (camera) directly on the skin where you have pin-pointed this mass. In fact, we almost never do mammograms on 25 year olds, but go directly to ultrasound.

You ultrasound could show many things, including a cyst, fibroadenoma, lipoma, encapsulated fat, or just normal breast tissue which feels lumpy.....all benign. Tarkarri is correct that the far majority of breast cancers are not due to the breast cancer gene. If a mother/daughter or aunt/niece both get breast cancer, it is usually coincidental. The breast cancers are usually not due to genetics.

"Only 5-10 % of breast and ovarian cancer is inherited, meaning the majority of women who develop breast and/or ovarian cancer do not have the genetic mutation."

Try to take some deep breaths and relax. The odds are very well in your favor here! Best wishes....

At your age, the density of your breast tissue will often make mammograms inconclusive.

This is one reason why screening mammograms are only recommended for older women.

The ultrasound will give a much clearer picture of what is going on.

It is unlikely to be breast cancer at your age, but you are wise to be following up on this and if they do find it is cancer, early diagnosis and treatment are the key to survival.

Don't worry too much about your family history. You don't mention what type of cancer your grandfather had, the lung cancer is totally unrelated to breast cancer and if the breast cancer your aunt had was genetically linked it is likely there would be more cases diagnosed.

Only 5% of cancers are caused by genetic flaws, most are triggered by age and environment.

i've got had small lumps countless situations. once I get a mammogram I continuously could return and get a recheck, as quickly as even an ultrasound by using this. they have continuously been ok after the recheck nonetheless. My mom had 2 lumps she chanced on herself, neither confirmed up on her mammogram. She had them bumped off and that they've been benign. the only i might project approximately if I have been Marie may be the only that is attached. i'm hoping she's getting a extra assessment genuine quickly, she needs to maintain on suitable of all this to be on the secure area. My perfect to you the two.
