to all the people who arn't terrorists? What do you think will happen to the women, children, and the men who just want to live peacefully? Do you think that they would be better or worst off if we pulled out? Do you believe the bombings, killings, torchure and threats would stop?

The civil war would continue -- as it will whether we stay or not -- and would continue for quite some time.

Eventually, either one faction would rise to dominance -- or different factions would reach a stale-mate by controlling their own little territories.

The US presence is just dragging out the duration of the conflict -- because we are trying to guarantee that one particular faction achieve dominance -- and that the faction be one that we approve of.

Without the US -- the level of the conflict would probably be slightly less, and would taper off as local groups secured their individual territories -- the resulting "winner" of the civil war may not be who we would want to win -- but that problem is just as likely regardless of whether we stay or leave.

So, if you ask an intelligent question, how many stupid people that can't think of anything thoughtful will post up something inane as an answer?

Civil War is almost a given. Not like what's going on now - but a full-fledged, bloody civil war that will involve even a NATO ally (Turkey with the Kurds). The Kurds would likely declare an autonomous region in the north or even seek to have their own region recognized as a country. "Balkanization" would likely result as other ethnic groups also seek recognition.

Iranian influence would also increase the violence as Iran attempts to sway control over the fighting factions towards their own goals. Would likely end with localized Iranian puppet governments consolidating control over some regions. Civil war on it's border would also likely give Iran a valid excuse to respond using it's own military to re-establish order within Iraq - at least in the regions along the border.

Foreign mujahadin fighters would also attempt to gain as much control as possible to install Sharia law based governments over the populace (VERY similiar to the Taliban).

AQ would assist and fund many foreign mujahadin fighters and gain some open acceptance and influence in the new Sharia law based areas as well as a new base to operate and train openly from.

Anyone that says it would be the same as now has no idea how many different ethnicities, religious factions, foreign governments, and foreign religious fighters are involved nor any understanding of what a real power vacuum is.

There will be an increase in the civil war that is going on over there. It is THEIR civil war and THEY will deal with it as the people of that part of the world have done for over 3000 years. At least Americans won't be in the line of fire. If they are not ready to govern themselves by now they never will be.

Iran would take it over and would take that oil to use the money to kill off non muslims (that's been his program all along). Anyone who got in their way would be massacred.

The same thing will happen that is happening right now.
It happens in any country that has a power vacuum.
