I have a 2 month old chihuaua, I bought him from a private breeder 3 days ago. I made a mistake and gave him turkey hot dog and tuna, because he wasn't eating his puppy food.
Now, he is sick and lathargic. He wont get up. And he has dihrea. He wont move.
I examined his gums and they look nice and pink. He just looks so depressed. I am planning on taking him to the Vet if he doesn't feel better by tomorrow afternoon. What can I do meanwhile.
He only drinks water.

You need to take that pup to a vet ASAP like NOW. This is an emergency. Pups that young and especially that small can not be dehydrated very long before death. If this is parvo, which it could be...your pup could die within 24 hours. Even if you are lucky and it is not Parvo and it's an upset stomach dehydration can kill him almost as quickly.
The first indication that your puppy was sick was when he wouldn't eat his puppy food. For all safe purposes do not wait. You could be sorry!

the lethargy could be due also to low blood sugar. Puppies even healthy ones can go down hill very fast when their blood sugar falls. esp if they are not eating and or sick. (mine Chihuahua ) did this(hypoglycemic) the first 6 months. But hasnt done it since then. So on top of its meds its taking for its other health issues try giving it 1 to 2 ccs of plain vanilla yogurt several (2 to 3) times thru out the day. If it gets very lethargic you can also take syrup (caro white is good) on your finger and rub it in there mouth for a quick fix. Also talk to your vet that it has been seeing about it possibly being hypoglycemic on top of its other health issues. also if the problem continues you need to call and talk to the breeder and have them reimburse you for the puppy if you just got it. One more tip for very small dogs is that you can give them a scrambled egg and even drizzle a very small amount of the syrup on it. they will tend to eat the egg much faster than dog food and the sugar from the syrup will insure that it has some sugar in it --and eggs are protein. Just some tips for very small dogs that tend to be under 4lbs. Also your breeder should have warned you about the hypoglycemia when you bought the dog, and told you how to watch for it. If not one more reason to seek reimbursement on the dog.

Your puppy might be alright, call the Vet to see if you can ease its discomfort. I would put him on a dry dog food and stay away from turkey and tuna. They are so small they probably eat very little and maybe not as often as a bigger dog. Good Luck and have fun and learn all you can about your new puppy.

At least he is drinking water, so that is a good sign.
Puppies stomichs are so sensitive and do not have alot of
natural defense build up in the intestional track, so only feed
it PUPPY formula food.
Yes, you may want to take it to the vet. Hope puppy gets better. Enjoy your new found friend. I have had Chihuahua's
for many years now. I have a four lb. one now. They are great little pets. Very loving, loyal, protective. God Bless.

Keep him drinking as often as possible. Its obviously a tummy ache. No people food ! Remember his tummy is sooo tiny right now even a bit of puppy food will be enough ours eats only a few of those tiny nuggets every couple hours and she takes it into the living room...dunno why she always has. Just offer him food and water and dont let the food sit out it looses its smell and they depend on smell for their appetite like 99% even over taste...thats why they eat weird stuff if you dont watch them. Good luck and enjoy your new baby :)

He has Parvo most likely. The food you gave him most likely make him that sick.Call the vet TODAY or go to the E M Vet. He could dehydrate VERY QUICKLY with diarrhea weather he's drinking or not.

Call the breeder. Any RESPONSIBLE breeder would want to know and would want to help you.

Of course, if you didn't buy from a RESPONSIBLE breeder, then there's any number of things that could be wrong, and you should be talking to the vet instead of a bunch of strangers on the internet...

That was pretty dumb..You dont give puppies or full grown dogs that sort of concocsion. Its going to pass but now he has to suffer for it..Maybe you should take him in. He has a huge belly ache.
