We prayer to God the Father, in the name of his son Jesus Christ. We see Jesus as our advocate with the father and do all things in the "name of Christ." It is because of the fact that Christ paid a ransom for all of our sins that we are able to enjoy the blessings of the atonement. Because of Christ's love for us, we can be saved.

Jesus taught us how to pray in the Lord's prayer. He told us to pray to the Father in His name. Thus Mormons (including me) will always pray to the Father, and always end "in the name of Jesus Christ."
Other Christian denominations which pray to Jesus, or even to Mary or the Saints, are ignoring what Jesus taught us about prayet.

I just have to jump in here even though I am not a Mormon. As a Christian, I pray to God, too. The difference is that I acknowledge that Jesus made us right with God. Therefore, I trust that Jesus is the Messiah, the one who God sent, and I trust that he is of God and is God in the flesh, somehow and far greater than I can understand it. I do not believe that our universe was absent on that day Jesus died. God did not die. Somehow, in God's divine plan, Jesus is the Word of and from God's divine self.
Secondly, Jesus' disciples asked him to show them how to pray. Jesus' example was "Our Father..." therefore, I pray to God with the image of him being our Father.
Lastly, God is called many names in the Hebrew Bible and yet he is God and the God above all gods. However you pray to God, remember the awesomeness and majesty of God. Some, dare to even speak God's name. Others, beg to know God as father. However one prays to God, God will know the heart.

All of our prayers are addressed to God, our Heavenly Father, in the name of Christ. Christ taught that we should ask the Father in His, Christ's, name for whatsoever we desired or needed. That is what we do. Yes, we confess to our imperfections in our prayers as well as asking forgiveness from whomever we may have hurt or offended. If the offence is egregious enough to endanger our membership standing, then we also confess to our Bishops, the common judges in the Church. The peaceful comfort of forgiveness comes from the Holy Ghost when the full measure of repentance has been fulfilled.
