There is the Syrian hamster, which is the most common type of hamster; the teddy bear variety you mentioned is a Syrian hamster, as is the golden bear, panda bear, black bear, and many others. There is also the Russian hamster, which is of the dwarf variety. The Chinese hamster is similar in size to the Russian hamster (dwarf); however, it, unlike other hamsters, has a long tail.

there are two main kinds of hamster, sereyon and dwarf. for example, the teddybear hamster is a type of sereyon hamster. there is also a golden hamster.

SYRIAN HAMSTERS CHINESE HAMSTERS ROBOROVSKI HAMSTERS
The Syrian Hamster is also known as the Golden, Standard or Fancy Hamster. It exists in many different colour, pattern and coat mutations with the Long Haired Syrian Hamster sometimes referred to as the Teddybear Hamster. The Chinese Hamster is mouselike in appearance (but with a short tail) and exists in the normal colour of brown with a black dorsal stripe and Dominant Spot with greyish brown colouring and white patches. The Roborovski Hamster is the smallest of the Dwarf Hamster species being only 4-5cm in length. It is golden brown in colour with distinctive white eyebrows.
DWARF RUSSIAN HAMSTERS
There are two sub-species of Dwarf Russian Hamsters: the Campbells Russian (also knowns as the Djungarian Hamster) and the Winter White Russian (also known as the Siberian Hamster). The Campbells Russian exists in the normal colour of mid-grey with a dark grey dorsal stripe, Albino (white with red eyes), Argente (ginger with red eyes), Black (near black with a jet black dorsal stripe), Opal (blue/grey with ivory belly), Mottled (white belly and white patches on the back), Platinum (white belly and top coat ticked through with white hairs) and dilute Platinum (white with black eyes). The Winter White Russian exists in the normal colour of dark grey with a jet black dorsal stripe and also exists in Sapphire (purple/grey with ivory belly), Imperial (with a whiter belly) and Pearl (white with coloured hairs ticked through).
