Global warming is a long term trend during which the average temperature across the planet increases. It is the primary cause of climate change.

Certain gases, the 'greenhouse gases', have a property that enables them to retain heat within Earth's atmosphere, it's like a layer of insulation. The more of these gases there are the more heat is retained; carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide are three examples of greenhouse gases. There are natural cycles which do remove these gases from the atmosphere but in recent times we've been adding greenhouse gases much faster than natural cycles can remove them and so the average temp has been warming.

I note that one or two people have mentioned the ozone layer, it's an understandable error but really the ozone layer has a very small role to play in global warming.

OK, you have probably heard a lot of people say that Global Warming is just a natural cycle, and that there's nothing we can do to stop it from occurring. While there is some truth to that (Global Warming is a natural cycle, and it's going to occur no matter what) there's something else out there that's messing up this natural cycle, and is making it like nothing the world has ever seen before. That new factor is human activities. Human activities directly affect the greenhouse effect (which directly affects Global Warming), you see greenhouse gases a natural in the atmosphere to keep us from freezing over, but since the beginning of the industrial age, we (humans) have added excess greenhouse gases into the atmosphere that aren't suppose to be there (and the more we add the harder it is for the earth to remove them). These excess gases trap more heat and release less causing the whole earth to heat up (a.k.a. Global Warming) this is NOT good because the slightest change in the earth's climate systems can affect the entire thing. Causing new climate patterns to emerge that we may not be able to adapt to (and about 1/3 to 2/3 of the worlds species as well).

But there is still hope. We currently have all of the technology, money, man power, and resources we need to EFFECTIVLEY slow Global Warming back down to its modest warming over thousands of years.

To get more information, evaluate your daily impact, and to find out how you can start reducing your daily impact (cheaply) go to climatecrisis.org and/or think.mtv.com and/or nasa.gov and/ or http://liveearth.msn.com/green/myths

And if this still isn't working for you then I have a question for you. In about 30 years (if humans haven’t decide to change our ways, go green, and slow down the effects of Global Warming to its natural rate) and the effects of Global Warming have set in so far that there's nothing we can do or any one after us can do to reverse what WE have done, and my children/grandchildren and you children/grandchildren have to live with the horrible effects What are you going to say? What are you going to say when they ask you, "What were you thinking? Why didn't you do anything?"

It's something that people like Gore are just trying to make money off of. If you do your research, you'll see that it isn't real. One big thing is that global warming is supposedly from us emitting all the bad stuff in the air from cars and such, yet a group of students from Harvard did a study that found that it was hotter back in the medieval times then it is now. And they didn't have cars or any of the stuff we have now back then!

If you have a globe in your house and you have it next to a heat vent and it gets warm from the heat blowing on it. That's what they call global warming.

OMG i hate it global warming is the earth getting hotter and hotter and all the ice glaciers are melting witch is making more water believe it or not its already happening and its not a good thing its been caused by using to much energy and green house gases if you want to slow it down and help go to www.fightglobalwarming.com

When the earths core expands and heats up. This creates increases in volcanic activity Heating both the worlds oceans and the lands.

the thining layer in the ozone layer due to natural and man made reasons that is why pple r buying more hybrid cars cuz it lowers pollution
alot of pple say hole in the ozone layer but it really isnt!!!!
some pple clame that global warming isnt happining but i think it is
you can google a documentary that al gore did it is really interesting!!!! it is maybelike an hour and a half at the most
it gives you some good info the only thing is is that u dont know where his info came from but still it really gets you to thinking how to save our planet!!!!!!!!

Republican: It is the naturally occuring increase of the average temperature of earth.

Dem: It is casued by c02 and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere that casue the average temperature to increase and will casue many coastal cities to flood.

There is a hole in our ozone layer by pollution, and it is allowing UV (ultra violent) rays from the sun that is warming up the Earth.
