Because the bible was written when people were uneducated, and now they are (for the most part) smart enough to tell the difference between a dead person or something with leprosy, or a 900 year old man and a man who ages badly.

Well, there are miracles, and they happen everyday. The law of gravity is a miracle. Okay, so your want more. Loved ones finding each other after twenty years of estrangement. Oh, you want like water into wine, or the red sea parted. There is a cure for polio! Oh, Oh you mean without science! I took a breath this morning and got up and thanked my lucky stars I am alive. There are billions and billions of stars in the star, and yet during the day you can't see a one (well you can if you know where to look) but at night, the velvet sky is studded with lights so remote, it would take us at least a thousand years to reach the closest in a space ship. Oh drats, I forgot, spaceship ain't a miracle either, nor is the gaining of knowledge. How about a little graditude for what you do have, and maybe you too can enjoy a miracle.

I don't see where walking through fire and people coming back from the dead as something that happens many times in the bible. All the people that were raised from the dead were raised by Jesus while he walked on the earth, just so you know Jesus is not walking on the earth now. As for 900 year old men, well God specifically stated that Men would not live as long after the flood, there are theories of why man was able to live so long prior to the flood I suggest you do some research on this.

What makes you think they were commonplace before? Reading about them in a compendium of fairy tales? If that is the case, check out the guy from DC in the blue tights.
ADDENDUM
"My unbelieving father said yes to Jesus Christ four days before he died, at 91 years old. That was a miracle to me. Up until that day, there was zero evidence that any of my prayers, made over a ten year period, were having any effect whatsoever."
Hmmm. You prayed that your father would die? Or was the miracle that he expired after being exposed to your Sky Daddy for only four days? Seems rather toxic to me.

I'm not sure of the exact definition
I witnessed what I thought was a minor miracle, at least for me.
A tack was pointed straight up, I stepped on it with my full weight, 250 or so, and it DIDN'T poke through my skin.
VERY STRANGE !!!!!!!!!
I put the tack on the table so nobody else would step on it.
Then I saw it resting on its side
Then I took it and poked it into an earplug for safety
other things landed on that table soon after
I always figure if somebody building the Taj Mahal pay close attention
anyway, now that tack is lost, who has it I wonder

You can take two approaches to this. One: does God really need to perform modern day miracles in order to gain your belief in him. If the answer is yes, then you my friend, need to rethink your religious beliefs and worship. Secondly, there are miracles, hidden, or ones that most people are oblivious to. Once again, if you need God to raise a man from the dead, or have the bread of communion spew blood, in order to gain your faith, then you are practicing the wrong religion.

Talk to any ER doctor, surgeon, or OBGYN and they will assure you that miracles still exist. Even the process of developing a human and the love and bonding that takes place after the miraculous delivery is a miracle in and of itself.

For one, there are miracles happening today; the media just chooses not to promote Christianity. Some churches (International House of Prayer for one) have miracles happening all the time, mainly healing and demons being cast out of people. There haven't been any incidents involving people being raised from the dead locally, but I don't kid you- miracles are happening today!
(Also, even if you DO see miracles, it is up to you whether or not you CHOOSE to believe in it)

There are really OLD people on this planet!
People do walk on hot coals, barefoot.
I died twice and am still counted among the living!
There are miricles. Most go un-noticed to the untrained eye!

And I don't mean to be rude, but if someone else doesn't consider that a miracle, I couldn't care less.

As far as someone returning from the dead - type 23 minutes in Hell in your browser and listen to that man's testimony. Then type in "To Hell and Back" and listen to the testimony of five men who were committed atheists and died and came back.
I have seen miracles from casting out demons to seeing food multiply right before my eyes so that no tricks could be pulled to fool me. I have seen or met many people who were healed in answer to prayer including people with aids and cancer. I saw my own son instantly healed at the age of four from terrible pain in answer to the prayers of my wife and I.
The greatest miracle of all was when Jesus Christ touched my life and transformed me from a drug using hippie into a Christian who loves and serves God.
God is in the miracle working business when people are willing to believe what He says in His word and act on it.
